Paint to match this wallpaper

I've got this wallpaper for one wall in my walkway and want to paint the stairs a complimentary colour. I've tried colour matching but don't love the grey in such a large space. I also don't want mustard yellow to match the seagull feet. Could I get away with a pale blue? Image and link hopefully attached.

off white? very pale grey?

i wouldn't personally have blue

JoJoSM2 · 16/03/2018 22:24

I think the blue might clash. You could try off white and have a bit of grey and mustard in other stuff to tie in the design.

Bluntness100 · 16/03/2018 22:27

I'm not sure about the blue. What about a charcoal grey to Match the wings, with white woodwork and ceiling.

Thanks everyone. I've found a Little Greene grey paint chart so will try comparing greys in the morning.

My friend just put this paper up too. Personally I’d go with a very pale grey and maybe a darker grey on an end wall or something, but you don’t want grey so I’d go white. My friend had the house completely repainted in bloody magnolia - because she didn’t know what else to choose. Anything but bloody magnolia was my reply. She says she wish she’d asked me to get the paint for her. Too bloody late now after she’s paid s fortune to have it professionally done 😖

Flamingoringo · 16/03/2018 22:30

I think you could get away with blue. A pale duck egg blue.

MrsPussinBoots · 18/03/2018 07:57

Haha Annie your friend sounds like me. I'd love for someone to come in and paint it all magnolia so I don't have to make any decisions. My living room is F&B calamine and it feels boring at the moment - until I can afford accessories.

Wallpaper is lovely but I wouldn't go for grey as it could look washed out. The same for any other page colour. If you want light then imo the only colour you could have is a bright white.

I would go for perhaps a navy blue or even a black?

DustandRubble · 18/03/2018 19:36

I’d be tempted by a dark blue for that too. Something to contrast rather than blend.

Mamaohana · 19/03/2018 07:13

That wallpaper is very subtle, I think a dark blue would completely overpower it and draw the eye away from it. Personally I think a light grey or off white are your only options and like a previous poster said, introduce some colour with accessories.

DustandRubble · 19/03/2018 07:57

I just saw it’s stairs you are painting. I actually wouldn’t go dark blue on stairs with that wallpaper. But I still think you have way more options than just pale grey. A smoky grey blue maybe, or a darker grey. Not very very dark, but something in the middle.

It does depend whether you want the wallpaper to be your statement or your neutral though.

I have soft silvery grey curtains and carpet in my hallway, which I have teamed successfully with F&B Oxford Stone. It's a very soft brown, but works well with the grey colours. It's quite a warm colour. It highlights the greys really well.
