Rental property Chester

Hi all.
I am moving to Chester soon and looking for a rental property. I don't really know the area or have any local contacts - although we registered with rental agents.

There is very little on the market which meets our requirements. I'm looking at Rightmove, Zoopla etc

Does anyone have any inside knowledge or recommendations?

I know it well. Do you have children? Looking at schools? Or just for a nice area?

I reccomend Hoole. It's lovely; very close to town...I used to walk it when I lived there. There's a good mix of rentals available there too. Small, large....some quite big houses and small ones/flats too.

Newton which adjoins Hoole is cheaper because it's largely made up of council houses and flats but it's still respectable and nice.

Upton is nice....more expensive though.

Don't go near Lache.

What are you looking for? Where do you need to be and get to?

AjasLipstick · 15/03/2018 10:21

Also...what exactly are your requirements? You might find going a bit further afield to Mickle Trafford or Guilden Sutton yields results.

Thanks for the responses.

School is sorted - 2 teenage boys both going to Kings.

Husband will commute 3 days and work at home 2 so he is happy anywhere.

I work from home.

Need 4 beds and decent down stairs space.

Should have said looking to rent to get to know the area before we buy

If your boys are going to Kings (and even if they weren't) I'd recommend Handbridge it's a fab community 15/20 min walk to city centre and prob a 10/15min walk to school for your boys. Depending on budget Queens Park - adjoining Handbridge is also lovely. Rentals are few and far between so good luck! Chester's brilliant, you'll love it.

Hoole, as mentioned is also great but the other side of the city for school and traffic on the school run can be a nightmare.

It says long term but maybe you could ask for shorter term and if they're having difficulty letting it, they may agree.

This one is in Saughall which is a lovely village a couple of miles from the city centre....very nice community and great buses...there will be a bus for the boys to go to school if you're not driving them.

You could also try Westminster Park, lots of beautiful houses but no pubs so wouldn't be any good for me! also longer walk to the city centre. Would
Probably avoid Lache and Blacon.

Upperwallop · 15/03/2018 10:58

Saughall is lovely. Tiny little village but easy ride to Chester www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-64082767.html

When you say, that don't meet your requirements, exactly what are they, aside from what you've already said?

AjasLipstick · 15/03/2018 11:04

Upper well OP added the details that she wants 4 beds and a decently sized downstairs area.

Upperwallop · 15/03/2018 11:06

Well yes, I saw that but she also said that she's struggling to find anywhere that fits their requirements. I've been able to find several within a few minutes that on paper seem to fit the bill, so I wondered if there was anything else that she hadn't mentioned.

Cmcc2206 · 15/03/2018 11:07

Thanks for the suggestions.

Was ideally looking for something detached with an extra downstairs room for the boys but maybe short term we could do slightly smaller.

Are there any local agents worth speaking to that don't advertise on Rightmove? Or local FB pages etc where landlords might advertise direct?

Type Chester rentals into fb and you get a couple of groups you can join.

Cmcc2206 · 15/03/2018 11:18

Thanks

Although I live in the area I've never rented so I can't recommend any local estate agents.
I'd avoid Blacon and the Lache, but there's many of nice towns on the outskirts of Chester. Such as Christleton, Saughall. It's a lovely city but property can be a bit on the pricey side unless you are prepared to move out of the city.
