Opinions needed on window colour for our conversion

We're currently converting a chapel into a house and are struggling to make a decision about the windows...

We are pretty much set on having plastic windows made for the windows in a dark grey /anthracite colour (it looks great against the old yellow brick, much better than white). However, we have the option to have a different colour on the inside and I've started to think that white on the inside would be better... dark grey might be a bit much / limiting when it comes to internal paint and fabric colours.

But... we're also having a big panoramic door fitted which will be anthracite on both sides (I think white on the inside would look shit on this). Is it going to look odd that the windows and panoramic door don't match on the inside (bear in mind that, as it's a chapel and quite open plan, they do sit alongside each other). I'm thinking not, the door somehow seems separate to me (it's a feature in itself) but DP is worried that it might.

So, what would you do (or even, have you done) in this situation - go for anthracite everywhere to avoid the 'not matching' problem but potentially 'over-grey' the place or have white on the internal windows?

Thanks!

Anthracite is all the fashion at the mo but it really only suits some modern or industrial buildings.

I've just googled yellow chapels and houses and white or pale grey windows seem to work well.

We are looking to replace timber framed windows and I was trying to get the frame company to tell me what The Next Big Thing in window frames is going to be in an attempt to be ahead of the curve Wink - but no, no such luck, grey is still the colour to have yer windows seen in, apparently.

I think the inside of your frames will depend more on how you are going to decorate the space.

I would have a uniform colour throughout.
Have you considered aluminium or composite rather than plastic?

We worried about the whole grey being really fashionable thing but decided to go with it because it really does look great with the colour of the bricks (dark yellow and red).

It's more the internal colour we're not sure about.

Plastic is the best option for us (we've looked into all options - wood is prohibitively expensive (9 gothic arch windows, plus 6 non arch ones!!!!!) and you can get some really decent looking plastic sash windows now.

Decoration-wise, we're not sure what we're going to do yet. Which is probably why I like the thought of having white on the inside so we're not limited.

Not a church but we had grey inside and out on ground floor so it all tied in and quite contemporary decor then grey on outside and white on inside upstairs where its not quite as minimal and windows are not as big - thought grey might make rooms look darker.

Can you post a photo of the panoramic window? I can't think, unless it's really visible from outside, why white inside wouldn't work.

We have an old yellow brick house and will be having sliding doors painted in a mid grey (eg RAL 7023, 7032, 7033) - these also work very well with yellow brick especially the greys with a slightly green tinge. Would you consider this as I think it would be an easier colour to live with on the interior?

I would avoid white plastic personally.

clevername · 15/03/2018 10:14

I know what you mean about white plastic...

The colour of the panoramic doors is RAL 7016 (see doors in attached pic for the colour. Might not be those exact doors though, we're looking at a couple of products).

So... I'm getting the feeling that people think having the door and windows in different colours on the inside isn't a good idea?

Outside different from inside is fine (except for bifolds, possibly)

Two different colours on the inside, in the same room, could be a bit odd.
