North East facing garden- best area to place decking?

Hi, I've read a few posts on the amount of sun received in a north east facing garden in the summer and gather that the top end of the garden should get a fair amount of sun in the summer months.
I've just moved into a house and am looking to build some decking at the end of the garden in time for summer. Question is, will the left or right hand side of the far end of the garden get more sun than the other throughout the day so is better suited for decking/seating area?
Details- the garden is 32 FT long, the surrounding fence is 180cm tall and the house is double storey.
Thanks in advance for any advice :)

All you need to do is look out of the window at different times of the day to see if/where the sun is.
You could get a bit more sun in the summer but I wouldn't bank on any if the garden in permanently in the shade these days.

Is there much space at the front of the house? A SW aspect is a lovely one.

Hi Jojo, the garden is mostly in shade at the moment apart from first thing in the morning as we're only in March, but the sun is higher in the sky during the summer months so looking for some info on what the sun will be like then.
Our front garden is tiny unfortunately!

On the bonfire if you are in the UK. Decking will get slippery and traps vermin beneath.

Chuck down some gravel.

I've ordered composite wood tiles to lay on top of a weed sheet over the grass so should avoid those issues that you mention SpecialSubject

Ours is NE facing. It gets very little atm but full sun at the back and especially in the right hand corner pretty much all day.

Thanks Dorothy, how long is your garden? I realise the longer the garden, the more sun it will get avoiding the shading of the house.

I would hold off doing anything permanent for a year, just so you can see just where the sun is at certain times of the day as well as the year. It will save a lot of time and hassle, not to mention money.
We have a north west facing garden and the sun at the end of the day is on the east side if the garden and about half way down it.

This article has lots of info about calculating sunshine and shadow.

Near the bottom there are links to online tools that use Google maps to show shadow, that might be the easiest for you.

Thanks for the info guys!
BlackAmericanoNoSugar, the FindMyShadow app mentioned in the article you posted has given me exactly what I need.
I'll be adding the seating area to the top right hand side of the garden :)

I was going to say top right! Our garden is north east facing and we haven’t got much sun in the garden now but in the summer it’s there all afternoon until about 8pm. We have a raised deck to make sure we get those last few rays 😎

DorothyHarris · 14/03/2018 19:02

@deenee it's not a very long garden forgive me I'm rubbish haha I couldn't say but this is our second year here and we got more sun than I thought last year.
