Reinstating house name?

Not an urgent question, just an idle thought.

First of all, I know the popular opinion is that house naming is naff, but on the other hand, it definitely increases property values, so it's naff I can live with.

But my actual interest is that I have recently discovered that my little row of terraces used to be named like the pub nearby. So think 'Queen's Head Cottages' or similar.

Fiance and I had been considering naming our house so that it was more attractive to the more superficial easily sucked in kind of buyer, and improving the frontage by adding an appropriate porch. The houses stand out from their neighbours, which are all 1930s, and they are Victorian.

Now I am thinking '1 Queen's Head Cottages" or variants thereof would be both historically correct but a) a pain in the bum for the postman (given our house is currently 123 Park Road), and b) stuffs things up for the two other houses on the row? Or just Queen's Head Cottage?

The alternative is an entirely made up 'theme' name to go with the road.

I don't think you can just renumber your house with a different street name..

You could just call it Queens Head Cottage though.

Well, you can rename/number but still have to list the OLD name, so it would be 1 Queen's Head, 123 Park Road!

Ok, I know that's a bit bonkers...

Agreed. You can’t be 1 queens head, while others in terrace are 2 park road etc.

You can name our own house something without a number. Does it really increase house values? I thought that was a myth.

I wouldn't have thought it had any impact on value. And I live in a house with just a name and no street number on a very long road. Didn't sway us when we were buying and, frankly, can be a pain as we have to give detailed directions to anyone coming out to us.

Any idea how the practicalities work?
I've done the opposite, for some reason I can't now recall, I dropped a Lovelylocal Cottage name, and have just used the house number for years.

Will sell sometime soon, and I know the previous name used to get a general reaction of " ooh, that sounds nice",
so thought I should reinstate.

I could put up a nameplate . What else? Tell the Post Office? Any ideas?

You have to contact the council and pay a fee in order to change the address. The council sends monthly updates to Royal Mail.

Our house had been given a number+house name which was nonsensical and didn't match the details on the title register. Our predecessors and their NDNs had been paying each other's council tax bills for years - luckily both houses are in the same
band. We had it altered as it had caused confusion when we were buying the house. We didn't have to pay because it was classed as correcting an error.
