Plumber call out charge

What would you expect to pay a plumber for this? Hot tap in bath not running any water at all. Called a plumber 3 days ago to fix the problem. He arrived today, spent less than 10 minutes here. He unscrewed the tap, told me the tap needed replacing and that he could do that next week. Charged me a call out fee for the 10 minutes today. I suspect I've been ripped off.

I had this for my toilet once. 10 mins and £80 later I was Hmm

He did apologise but it clearly said first hour was £80 then billed in 30 mins thereafter.

Yes it’s perfectly normal to have a high first hour call out fee then lower rates after. If you have a regular plumber they may lower it

FInd a new plumber!

Ask him to give you a quote for the new tap etc and then ring round

Some charge a lot less than that!

10 minutes at your place but how much time had he taken to travel to and from your home? It needs factoring in.

Really appreciate the replies. It was £110! I'm in the wrong job

To add...his business is 10 minutes down the road

If you're in the south I'd say £110 is fair. North and Midlands I'd expect £60 - £80.

The plumber is going to have a fixed call out/ first hour fee. Although he is close to you, another customer could be half an hour away. It would be too complex to charge different rates according to distance, so the cost is evened out.

Ok thanks for the info. Feel a bit more reassured now.
