Dh has petrol he needs to recycle (?). Where can he take it?

Dh has stale unusable petrol that he needs to recycle. Where can he take it? It is sitting in the back garden in bottles, and making the garden look a little untidy/Steptoes back garden.
He obviously doesn’t want to just dump it, he wants to dispose of it responsibly.
Any help very much appreciated, thanks.

"Stale" in what sense? Petrol comes from fossil fuels that were underground for millions of years. It doesn't go off does it?

Look up your local council recycling and waste disposal and give them a ring, or email them. You’ll probably have to wait until the weathers a bit better.

Youĺl need to call or email your L.A. waste team. Or ask at recycling centre. There is an oil dump at our local dump, and a fuel one.

The petrol has come out of a 10 year old motorbike which has not been ridden for a very long time. Dh has emptied the petrol out into bottles.

Go online and look at your local council website, I think we can recycle oils etc at our local 'tip'.

Thanks, yes it’ll be a couple of days yet before we can take it due to the weather. We knew there was an oil dump at our local recycling centre, but we don’t know if there is a petrol dump there as well, will check.

Thanks for your replies, my garden is going to look a bit smarter when we get it tidied up and petrol gone.

Petrol does indeed 'go off', the more volatile compounds evaporate and the mix isn't right for some engines. If you keep a spare can or have petrol powered items, rotate stocks and don't keep it over the winter.

The council should be able to help.

I poured my old degraded petrol into my burning bin into the ashes (I hadn't used it all winter so it was definitely dead). It soaked into the ashes and I left the bin for a week before using it again. All fine. Same way I dispose of kitchen oil/pan fat and grease before we got the compost bin...
