When is a combi boiler enough and when should we go for a cylinder too?

We have had such conflicting advice and we don't know what to choose. We are in a three bedroom house, with a garage extension downstairs which currently has an electric shower in it.

Plumber one recommended cylinder, accumulator etc etc coming in at £8k.

Another one reckons a combi boiler will be fine as it is only doing 12 radiators and one bathroom.

Combi is much cheaper. There currently isn't much water pressure in the house but he is confident that will be fine with a combi. We have had a combi before in an old house and it was fine but first plumber was adamant that a cylinder was needed.

Any advice please?

Combis come in a range of less and more powerful units. There are online calculators that tell you how many kW you'd need based on your house. But it sounds like your house is of a pretty average size so a combi should be fine.

Have a combi. Five bedrooms. High ceilings. Four floors. Works fine Smile

how many people are in the house? It is always annoying to be in the shower when someone turns on a tap, flushes a WC or turns on the washer, causing the flow to reduce and the temperature to change.

Fill a bucket at the kitchen cold tap, time it, calculate how many litres per minute you get.

Calculate how long it will take to fill a 100 litre bath.
