Share to buy- thoughts

Just wondered if anyone has gone down the ‘share to buy’ route and why or why not.

For context DP and I are on approx £65k/year combined but down to about £50 with me part time due to me being part time after DD born. We could probably save £10-15k relatively quickly for a deposit for share to buy, but it’s going to be years and years before we can save a bigger deposit to get a mortgage otherwise. Currently live together in a rented flat- since having dd have began to consider the vulnerability of private renting and wondering if share to buy would be good for us.

Just wondered if anyone had any wisdom. Thanks!

Also- if relevant- we would be looking in Kent/Surrey/Sussex so all very expensive property wise

Personally, I'd prefer shared ownership to renting - you're more in control, won't get kicked out and could potentially staircase to full ownership over time.

However, if there's any chance of buying normally, I'd do that. Even having a smallish flat in a cheaper area would be preferable in my eyes. You so t be paying any rent on it and the mortgage interest rate will be lower. In a few years' time, you could move up the ladder more easily than from a shared ownership property.

Agree with previous poster, if there is any hope of buying something without having to do this then buy it. But yes better than renting

My dsis bought her first property using share to buy. She made enough equity in the 2 years she lived in the property and had about 15% deposit to buy another property outright.
