Cold weather and a drainage issue

Hoping for some advice please.

I look after a property which is let. It’s a big Victorian house on three floors. Today the tenant has called for a plumber because the baisin in th ground floor loo and a bath on the top floor aren’t draining. This is just as of this afternoon when the temperature is well below freezing.

Both drainage pipes will be connected I think down the side of the house and into the same external drain.

She has already arranged for a plumber to come first thing tomorrow at our expense but am I reasonable in thinking we could wait for the thaw at the weekend to see if this resolves itself? What can a plumber do realistically if the drain is frozen that you couldn’t do yourself??

Any answers gratefully accepted.

Thanks.

Ask them to pour a kettle of boiling water down the sink? Or run a bath of hot water?
