If you have an IKEA kitchen...

Which doors do you have and do you like them? Any door regret?

I was pretty set on the white Veddinge but just found some bad reviews, apparently the painted finish easily chips/scratches off.

In a way I would like Savedal but worry it would look too cottagey/vintage in my 60s flat.

Ringhult seems to have the best reviews (and I always notice it's the only door in the store which isn't grubby at toddler-height!) but gloss feels like it's going to look pretty dated soon, do you think?

We have white veddinge

4 years in and good as new. No marks no scratches

PoohBearsHole · 26/02/2018 22:46

Think we have older version of the Savedal, looks more modern if you choose modern handles. Been very happy with it, had it for 8 years, one door looking a little scraped due to rubbing constantly against a bar stool 🙄 But been very happy and internaks have not let me down yet!

LilaoftheGreenwood · 26/02/2018 22:50

Hague no worries there, I am stuck for both budget and hassle reasons with the very basic 15cm square white tiles that the previous owner tiled the entire kitchen with floor to ceiling on every wall! I don't dislike them actually, there is a utilitarian honesty about them.

Thanks Milly that's good to know! They seem a bit too good to be true with the price and the matte-ness.

We have white vedenge they are 4 years old and look as good as the day they were out in. We have the silver handles that run all the way along the top and some of them are a little stratched but nothing terrible. Love ikea kitchens

LilaoftheGreenwood · 26/02/2018 22:56

Ooh just found a Savedal with very sleek unobtrusive handles and now leaning towards them again:

So many hours of my life lost to this, I should probably roll a dice on the day I place the order!

What's wrong with metro tiles?

Millybingbong · 27/02/2018 09:09

They will date.

harrietm87 · 27/02/2018 15:54

We've got savedal in our Victorian house with brass handles and knobs - love it! We went for it as we wanted something plain and white (rather than cream) that would look modern but not too out of place in the old house. Also we deliberately chose the square tiles as I'm sick of metro! See pic.

We have what looks to be the older version of vefdinge. A few chips and a weird melted bit but otherwise ok. The lacquer is surprisingly easy to clean now that we've got the previous owner's grease off.

No predicter of the current quality, of course.

JoJoSM2 · 27/02/2018 16:14

Harriet, that's one smart Ikea kitchen!

I've had a few Ikea kitchens over the years and both Veddinge and Ringhult are holding up very well in rented flats. The Ringhult can be made to look very smart in a modern flat but your existing tiles wouldn't work with it. I'd say not to get a white Bodbyn (starts going pretty yellow quite soon).

If you like the utilitarian honesty if the existing tiles, do not get tempted to get the Grevsta fronts as they're impossible to keep clean (shame as utilitarian honest is their middle name).

If you keep the tiles, perhaps the Hyttan fronts would work well for the simple, utilitarian look?

LilaoftheGreenwood · 27/02/2018 17:40

JoJo, you sound like you have a good design eye, I see what you mean about the Ringhult/tiles. Also, you read my mind, the one thing I thought was settled was a row of horizontal 40cm high Grevsta wall cabinets! I really like the tactileness (?) of the Hyttan, but they will clash with the light oak worktop I had chosen. I don't suppose your flats also have plain white laminate work surfaces that are holding up super-well, by any chance? No, probably not.

Elsewhere in utilitarian honesty Ikea have just brought out a fab new black chalkboard door which keeps catching my eye, maybe this is its moment! If I can finalise the Veddinge/Savedal choice (love Harriet's kitchen and yes those are my tiles) that will narrow it down. I think Veddinge could take a contrasting row of Hyttan but Savedal probably not. Blackboard could go with either. Or just get resign myself to fingerprints with the Grevsta - if they really drive me nuts it's only 3 doors so I could replace.

Contrary to how it might appear this is really helpful, thanks all!

This looks like Hyttan + Veddinge (though reversed to how I would have them). I do like them together.

Need to go get samples I think, and hold the Hyttan against the Ecbacken light oak worktop.

White Veddinge here, been in a year and a half. Very happy with it. Plain black D-shaped metal handles. Very easy to clean.

JoJoSM2 · 27/02/2018 18:01

Sounds like you've got nice combinations of units in mind.

The Grevsta might drive you nuts - we had those in own house and they marked worse than a glass table + were 10x more difficult to clean. But like you say, it'd only be 3 fronts to change if you got fed up.

4yearsnosleep · 27/02/2018 19:17

We put in white cabinets 7 years ago and after 2 years they were yellowing badly. I will be cashing in my guarantee once my tenant moves out!

PoohBearsHole · 27/02/2018 19:26

We didn't go white so hasn't yellowed, will upload a picture if I can

PoohBearsHole · 27/02/2018 19:31

Shocking pic but splurged on granite work tops (cost same as kitchen 😳) which I really wanted. We are going to have to change it due to some work that needs to be done but am probably going to try and get rid of on Ebay as don't think they do the same doors and will need a different layout.

We have Ringhult. It looks dated compared to current Pinterest trend for navy blue wood but I think it's more timeless. 4 years on and it's in great condition and wipes clean soooo easily.

Badgertastic · 31/01/2019 22:06

@PoohBearsHole did you ever swap out your kitchen?

PoohBearsHole · 31/01/2019 22:34

Ha @Badgertastic - yes we did :)
We didn’t replace with ikea this time, not because I didn’t like my kitchen (kept half of it and reused it) but because we wanted something to go with it so had a friend make an island and changed the work tops. Still have half a kitchen I don’t know what to do with 😂

Badgertastic · 31/01/2019 22:42

Is it the old faktum kitchen rather than the metod one?

Badgertastic · 31/01/2019 22:50

@PoohBearsHole I only ask as we have an old style faktum kitchen with the same doors and I'd love to add to it, but cannot get them anymore. I keep looking at eBay to see if I can match them. The other alternative is new doors on all cupboards and drawers.

PoohBearsHole · 31/01/2019 23:37

Pm me, I’ve got a wide variety of doors/units etc!
