Design my kitchen

It's 7.1m x 3.9m
They currently have units down both sides and a small island, then a table.

I'm changing it all, positioning of sink, job etc.
Any ideas?

Is 3.9m width wide enough to have an island all the way down, or bad idea?

What's wrong with your current kitchen? You posted pictures of it this week, I think, on another thread and it looks fine (apart from the lighting), but what do you want to change and why? More info rather than a blank page would help!

I'm moving
This is for my new house! I'm trying to plan.
Its the blank page that I'm struggling with!

Currently I have one long wall 6m.
I'm thinking I could copy that layout on one side, but trying to figure if I should get the same on the other side and if I have space for an island. Knocking through might be an option too.

Our kitchen is a similar size with some quirky features to work around. The basic layout is units along one short and one long wall in a 'L' shape and a long 'L' shaped island across from the long part of the 'L', if you get what I mean. The island faces the opening through to the dining room so we don't have a huge expanse of wall to out units on. Our FF is at one side of the opening and we have a bench and a vertical radiator on the other side. Opposite the short side of the 'L' of units are French doors leading outside. Attached is a rough diagram.

I think you need to get a professional in to do a design for you. Oneplan on Houzz for example. I

I'm just trying to get ideas at the moment as I'm not even in the house yet!
My own kitchen hasn't been in long, I'm happy that I could replicate that against one wall, few tweaks. But the thought of an island appeals !

Our kitchen is smaller but a similar shape (5.6x3.6?) We've got an L shape + island and at the other end, there's a breakfast table.

The island is 1m wide and fits well but we've got a big opening to another room behind it so that might give it a better sense of space. Having said that, with units 60cm deep + island at 1m, you'd still have 2.3m left to walk around so enough unless you have people on bar stools with their bums pushed out and blocking the way.

veuveo · 28/02/2018 20:09

Fudge- what's FF?
Do you have any stools at your island?

Jojo- I have an extendable kitchen table so would like to keep that, but if I have that I don't need another seating area.
But I would like a couple of stools, when people arrive I always feel a bit awkward with them standing around, and sitting down straight away is a bit formal.

I am thinking of knocking through/making an opening, so trying to think how table/island/stools could work with that.

FF = fridge freezer. Ours in a hulking great American style one. We have four stools at the island - two on the short end and two at right angles to that. It's very sociable. We have a 35cm overhang which means you can comfortably close to eat a meal at the island. We often have breakfast there at weekends.

Typos, but you get the drift

I think it would be worth drawing a few options to scale - you'll see what's likely to work. You should be able to google some guidance on distances needed between things.
