Is coving out-dated?

I’m sure this has probably been discussed before, but would like some fresh opinions please – we’re renovating a 3 bedroom late 60’s semi for rental, and are now at the decorating / finishing stage.

We’ve gone for a pretty contemporary finish, and more high end than an average rental (we may live there ourselves at some point). Our target market is young professionals.

The dilemma is should we have coving? Our paintwork is neat so it’s not necessary from that point of view. My gut feeling is that it’s a bit old-fashioned, but am open to general opinion!

Thank you.

I like older houses, my DF's old one was built in the 1700's, but they don't have the correct layout that DH and I need to make our lifestyle work so we're stuck with the more modern ones. Doesn't stop me wanting period features though, even if I can't have them.

I love coving - I live in a 150 year old property converted into flats and it really finishes the rooms off.

Just looking around my room - house built early 60s or so i think - I think we'd do well to put in plain narrow coving when we finally get around to repainting. The wall to ceiling join is just ever so slightly irregular and we could get a better finish with coving. Definitely a good thing the walls and ceiling are all white - would not look good at all otherwise.
