Structural work with newborn & toddler

We are just about to put an offer on a 3-storey period property that needs quite a lot of work done upstairs (first floor extension to be built over existing single-storey ground floor extension, knock 2 small bathrooms into 1 large bathroom and turn smallest top floor bedroom into bathroom, enlarge some windows)... this all seemed fine and manageable and fairly straightforward.

However, we now know that we would need to raise the roofline of the property in order to reinstall a new top floor staircase with suitable head room. It is just too cramped on both staircases at the moment.

I thought I’d convinced DH that it would all be fine and I can easily manage the architect and project manager... but now our families have thrown serious doubt into the mix as I will have a 3-month old and a 2-year old at the same time.

I’m pretty sure that it would all be fine. Is it crazy to consider these types of work with young children around?

It would all be done in one go and no DIY involved, as we’d outsource everything to a main contractor who would be managed by the architect.

Any thoughts, words of wisdom please?

It does sound a lot! Where would you be living? Assuming you’d be living elsewhere my main concern would be managing a 2 year old on site as you would probably need to visit regularly.

I assume you'll move out? I wouldn't want to be taking the two year old to site, baby in a sling I would.
