Is Right to Buy actually coming back?

I previously had a huge right to buy discount on my very lovely council house, but lost it when I had to move into a refuge. I currently am entitled to the right to acquire.

I’m not sure that I will ever be in a position to buy any house, even with a discount, so this is purely hypothetical, but is right to buy being rolled back out? I know there are pilot areas but will it be nationwide?

Just for curiousity Smile

There's lots in my area at the moment (I'm a conveyancing solicitor in the NW)

I don’t think it ever went away....

BubblesBuddy · 22/02/2018 21:39

It’s one reason why we don’t have enough housing - that’s for sure!

I’m HA so don’t know if that makes any difference, but once I’ve lived in my home for 5 years (18 months away from now) then I can do the right to buy; not that I ever could imagine being able to anytime soon, if ever, unless I win the lottery Grin

RTB for HA properties, will be subject to the findings of the pilot in the Midlands due to start in July.
You we get a discount with RTA.

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/02/2018 21:40

*will

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/02/2018 21:40

Summer it will be RTA not RTB if it wasn't a council proposal when you first moved in.

Ooh replies Grin

Marvel do you mean the pilot will start in July, or the pilot? And I would assume the pilot is looking for things such as take up, impact on other housing, level of discount etc?

Bubbles I agree with you, in my area it has certainly affected the availability of social housing. I’ve been fortunate enough to have 4 different social housing properties when I’ve needed it, and the longest wait I had was ‘only’ three years, which isn’t actually that long compared to other areas!

The pilot will start in July, will find the link in a bit for you.

Maybe depends on area. I moved into my London council flat last winter, as soon as my year's introductory tenancy was up I had the right to buy although probably at a very small discount after only 1 year into qualifying.
