Hadley wood / Chigwell

Hi, first post here. We are looking to buy a property in the suburbs. We’ve seen properties in Hadley wood and Chigwell, however am a bit worried about transport. Myself and DH work in the city.
Hadley wood - for Hadley wood i noticed that there isnt very good transport system to the train station. The walk might be too much to the train station.

Chigwell - we found a property just on grange farm lane, after chigwell School. For this as well i dont think the bus from Chigwell station gets that far,

How do people who live in these areas commute ?

I'm not from the areas in question but do live in the burbs. I'd say that people who work in central London tend to live within walking distance of the station. The ones who live away from public transport tend to work in other areas, often driving to work, or run a business somewhere, or are able to work from home/work part time and only go into London a couple of days a week.

Hadley wood is not far from cockfosters underground station. You couldn't walk it though. Suggest you look in Oakwood or cockfosters.

MumOfBoiz · 20/02/2018 19:22

Yea i know Cockfosters isnt too far its just getting there. So is Chigwell station, i think its is about 10/15 mins drive from the property. ☹️ Am sure there are working class who commute from these areas? Arent there? 🤔🤔

Sure there are, bur expect many either catch the bus to the tube, or use hadley wood overground.

Are you rigid about those two areas, as, like i said, cockfosters itself or oakwood are both beautiful areas.

Alternativey you could drive to and park at the tube station?

MumOfBoiz · 20/02/2018 20:05

Thanks MyBeloved, I’ll look at cockfosters and oakwood as suggested.

There are very nice houses within walking distance of Chigwell Station. Hadley Wood is probably the more expensive area of the two.

CaurnieBred · 20/02/2018 22:17

Can you walk to Hadley Wood station? That is a good service into Moorgate. Also look around Woodside Park: some lovely houses there and you are on the Northern line.

BubblesBuddy · 20/02/2018 22:37

Working class and Hadley Wood?? They don’t go together from what I know of Hadley Wood!

NoSwsForYou · 20/02/2018 22:39

I can’t really help as I left before I needed to do any commuting, but I grew up in Chigwell! Gosh it’s been a long time since I bought about Chigwell school. Does it have to be Chigwell station? Buckhurst Hill station is closer I think and there are bus stops within walking distance to get to it, or Loughton.

NoSwsForYou · 20/02/2018 22:40

I never used to use Chigwell station so can’t help with the busses for there, but I know for certain that the bus stops and routes for Buckhurst Hill/Loughton stop at several places on Chigwell high street.

I live in Chigwell!
I drive to one of the stations around - Buckhurst Hill, Grange Hill, Chigwell and leave my car around one of the side roads.
There is a bus that goes from Chigwell station - the 167 - but it doesn’t go up past your road it turns by the pub and goes towards Buckhurst Hill.
I don’t think there is a bus that goes up past Chigwell school - they have their own school bus for the kids that are there. Xx

Depends where you are in Hadley wood but another option is drive to potters bar. The fastest train from there gets to Moorgate in 30 mins. I did alsO use Bush Park which is on another line into Moorgate. The Piccadilly line journey from Cockfosters is so long, it is soul destroying. I did for about 5 years. It is so remote I used to see deer from the tube window,

MumOfBoiz · 21/02/2018 04:51

Thanks everyone. So from what I’ve gathered i could either drive down to the station and park nearby; or look further these two areas with better transport links.

Ill look at surrounding areas in Chigwell and other areas that have been suggested 🙂

The other thing is that Chigwell station itself is on the Woodford loop service which only has a train every 15-20 mins (15 in morning peak).
