Vintagey, classic, classy kitchen wall tiles for behind my range - maybe white with grey or grey?

I have had helpful advice on here before....I am getting in a pickle and going tile blind. Walls will be white, units pale grey, floor tiles are a granite coloured slate, range is black and silver. It's a sort of country kitchen. Curtains are white and grey with dark pink flowers. Smeg fridge is pale blue. Does anyone have any ideas? I can't seem to find the right thing 😟

IF you want classic don’t go with grey. That’s on its way out. I’d go for white.

I know what you mean, Absolutely. I think I really want white, or pale anyway, maybe with the lightest of grey touches - or even another pale colour. I suppose what I have in my mind is those Delft style ones but lighter (I realise they are often white and blue)....Arrgggh.

Have you considered something bespoke? Perhaps look online for handmade tiles and see if someone can produce something for you?

Whatever tiles and grouting you choose make sure your tiler doesn’t decide he doesn’t like your choice. I chose black tiles for my bathroom and black grouting. I’d seen it at the tile shop and loved it. My tiler changed my expensive grouting for cheap light grey and grouted in that. Then buggered off.

Hasn't grey been and gone?

I think simple small tiles with the crackle glaze finish would look classic and vintagey.

Thank you Veuveo, I really love the white ones! Which makes me think I actually need white ones and not grey.

UrsulaPandress - I suppose it depends how it's used. I don't imagine every single grey in every single kitchen situation will look dated forever, but some greys and styles will, I suppose.

The more I think about it, I need white or off white....

Jo - we had really similar to those in the house we moved from 18mths ago! In fact that is precisely what my OH wants! If we hadn't had them in our old house and I didn't feel like I want something different here, maybe we'd have them. But maybe I am being mindlessly prejudiced against the perfect tile....

If you go for white maybe go for something with a bit of interest like these.

Diffdaff · 19/02/2018 23:44

Yes, Titsy, I think 'white with a bit of interest' is probably it.

Grey grout in white tiles looks fab.

Diffdaff · 20/02/2018 06:16

That is a great idea, Fosterdog!

I think those Topps tiles are more formal looking than Delft style tiles, which give a more rustic look I think. The Norton Tile Company does Delft style tiles in different colours like green and sepia - might be worth a look.

I was going to suggest similar to JoJo, but I’m biased as I have similar in my kitchen. Marlborough Tiles. I have worded detail which is probably not to everyone’s taste, but period Cottage, Aga style range and this is my splashback.
