New modern bathroom...tile down to floor or re-fit the skirting boards?

Just wondered what people's opinions were please? Our plumber is currently ripping out our old bathroom, and has suggested he puts the wall tiles down to the floor instead of refitting the skirting boards.

We're having luxury vinyl tiles on the floor (dark) and pale porcelain tiles on the wall. He said he would then run some silicon sealant around?

Thoughts appreciated! Thanks Smile

Oh, here are some pics off the internet after a quick Google, so you can see what I mean...

Personally, I like skirting boards. But perhaps I'm just old-fashioned.

UnimaginativeUsername · 19/02/2018 11:10

I prefer not to have skirting boards in the bathroom.

Meandyouandyouandme · 19/02/2018 11:11

Definitely tile down to the floor, more streamlined and you won’t have to clean the skirting boards Grin

We have tile to floor in bathroom. I like skirting boards but IMO not in the bathroom with tiles

We have tile to floor in our ensuite

It hadn't been cleaned in that photo yet 😂

The developers put skirting boards in our bathrooms. It looks a bit odd with the tiles. And you have to clean the skirting boards (which just gather dust).

We've just finished re-fitting and decided to remove the skirting board. I was initially unsure as we have mid-grey brick-type tiles and dark oak-ish stained floor, but now i'm really pleased with it. Due to the lay-out of the bathroom it would have meant skirting the bath panel (tiled) which would have looked odd I think.

Only minor down-side is that I am in the habit of hoovering the bathroom out before wet-cleaning, and am having to be careful not to ram the hoover into the bottom layer of tiles!!

Thanks for your thoughts! As we're going for a modern finish and I hate cleaning, looks like we'll ditch the skirting Smile

user1484313858 I have a Dyson V8 and have to be careful not to ram it into things. What would happen if you did then? It would disturb the sealant?

Baxdream I'm glad you clarified about the cleaning ! Your en-suite looks fab!

In years of hoovering bathrooms with no skirting (until these ones) I’ve never had any ill effects.

TheShapeofYou · 19/02/2018 11:51

Just thinking about our front door. We have engineered hard wood floor and its got silicon sealant around... it's a bit of a dust trap. Am thinking wet wipes are probably the way forward?

sprinkleofsunshine · 19/02/2018 11:55

I use a mop type thing to clean the tiles floor and then wet wipes around the edges

ferrier · 19/02/2018 11:56

Definitely skirting boards. Looks cheap without.

ferrier · 19/02/2018 11:58

Unless you have the wetroom effect with floor to ceiling tiles.

user1484313858 · 19/02/2018 12:12

I don't think it would affect the sealant - I was thinking more about cracking the tiles if I accidentally hit the wall too hard (large upright hoover)!

FirstShinyRobe · 19/02/2018 12:15

Whatever you do, make sure he foams around all the pipes and seals the wall/floor edges behind the units.

FirstShinyRobe · 19/02/2018 12:16

I mean where the pipes come in. You don't want draughts.

TheShapeofYou · 19/02/2018 13:17

ferrier I'm worried it'll look cheap without. It's our main family bathroom, will have a shower over the bath. So not a wetroom. Hmm.

user1484313858 I think for the first few months I'll be getting the crevice tool out and getting down on my hands and knees to vacuum before mopping Grin Looking forward to getting modern tile-effect flooring over our manky old floorboards.

FirstShinyRobe thanks for the tips, will mention to the plumber (who I've known for 15 years, and knows his trade well).
