That, really.

I last did my house about 10 years ago. I am childfree and at most there has been 2 adults and a cat, so it's not really been damaged either - a few scuff marks but that's about it. I also picked plain paint colours which I (still) love so that's a non-issue too.

I need to replace some carpet as there was a leak (it will be lounge, hall, stairs and upstairs landing as it's all the same). But aside from the hassle of having to move so much furniture and the cost, by god is carpet shopping boring!

So how frequently do you decorate for desire rather than need?

What is it with bloody magnolia? Grin. A nice soft white I could have lived with but bloody magnolia!

The only rooms that weren't magnolia were the kitchen/diner/sitting area which are various shades of soft greys and the downstairs loo/shower room which is aqua.

I suppose it did take me ages to actually pick the colours for the kitchen etc so I suppose they thought I'd be a nightmare if they let me pick colours room by room. Grin.

We are currently converting our separate dining room into an office with a reading area so lots happening. Getting rid of dining room furniture etc. Also have a damp internal wall which will be sorted so that room will be redecorated. And the small bedroom which was DH's office will be decorated as a bedroom.

I would love to redo the kitchen - we have black granite worktops which I hate hate hate. But we have a lot of them and a huge island unit so it would be really expensive. And DH likes it. Hmm.

Grey is def in! DH is still bemused by how long it took me to pick the colours we do have and says we still ended up with 'sludge grey' in most rooms! Ours is mostly six or seven years done though. I think rich colours are coming back. But the Scandi look is still big. I think I works well with the light in this country.

@CiderwithBuda why not? I love my house, I like to keep it looking nice and I like to try out new colours and trends. I'm there every day, I want to take pride in my home. Be able to walk round my house and actually love every bit of it instead of 'oh, well it's ok it does the job'. It's nice to be surrounded by nice things even if it's just a new vase that I bought in a TKMaxx sale Grin

I'm 100% with you on all of that. Apart from I don't really know or follow trends - I just know what I like. I liked it when I did it, I still like it, so no need to change it (to more of the same, cos I like it, probably!) Grin

For some people it's a hobby. And there's nothing really wrong with that. If they like the whole process of coming up with ideas, going shopping etc then fair enough. I can't stand the hassle and cost of it all personally.

Every two years Blush
We have lived in our new build house for 3 years and I’ve done the living room for the second time. Kids rooms were just redone. And we have been touching up paintwork the last few weeks.
We lived in our previous house for 5 years and I decorated the downstairs 3 times. I love wallpapering and painting and love a change. Our sofa lasted two years because the dog ate it but my new leather suite I love and want it to last for a long time.
We have just sold this house and I’m looking for a fixer upper as I love decorating so much.

I'm the other extreme. If I had more disposable income I'd want furniture to last and different pieces rather than stuff just for 2 years.

However I'm worst of both worlds- broke so cheaper stuff and not changing it!
