Krend vs Traditional render

We were planning on have k-rend render on our new extension and at the same time re-rendering the existing house in k-rend. Quotes have come in higher than we can afford and so we are looking at what we can cut back on.

Does anyone know how traditional render plus paint compares with k-rend price wise?

Also, if we have the extension in k-rend, could we then later k-rend the rest of the house, or would it not join properly to the extension k-rend?

Thanks

K rend has plastic or metal frames which are filled so joins pretty seamlessly, though the shades might not be an exact match. It's worth doing, even if you can't do it all at once, as the finish is so much nicer than traditional render plus paint. It's quite sparkly.

I'd shop around. We got a quote from a "brand new walls" firm which was eyewatering, as they expect you to haggle, but getting a reputable plastering company to do it cost about half as much and with a much better finish than the expensive company, who also turned out to be utter cowboys.

Thanks

Do you have any idea of the cost differential - we are really need to reduce costs and may have to live with the aesthetic of traditional render if the costs make more sense. Although Our house is really old so maybe traditional render may also be more in keeping.

Just googled and there are some people complaining of algae issues with this stuff. I would be dubious especially if it is an old house - it needs to breathe.

Traditional render wasn't much cheaper. K-rend and similar are a lot easier to apply than traditional render, which keeps labour costs down. Iirc the biggest difference is that traditional render takes a lot of effort to smooth while coloured render is given so long to set but not fully dry and then either has a texture applied or is filed down to a flat surface.

Thanks - that's helpful.

I have seen some reports of algae issues, which have also concerned me ... will have a chat with our builder and architects and see what their thoughts are ... might just get the alternative trad render quite to compare.
