WTF is in my loft???!!!!!

So last night my husband wakes me at 4.30am to tell me he thinks there's rats in the loft! So we heard scratching and scrabbling type noises which are intermittent. Heard this evening about 6 and then not again. We had birds in the last loft (starlings) that got trapped occasionally but don't think it's the same type of noise. Our main issue it's a converted bungalow and we don't think we can access that part of the loft! So if we can't get in what the hell do we do about it and how do we work out what it is! Flipping nightmare. Any ideas anyone?

If you think you can hear rats, it will actually be mice... if you think you can hear burglars it will be rats!

Well the second pest control bloke was also stumped but ha put some UV tracking on the roof and coming back next week. No holes obvious anywhere and no dropping either but Defo heard them again today. The consensus is a squirrel but not sure how this will resolve. Bit of a bloody nightmare!

Squirrels eat things. They nibble. It’s making a nest. Get rid pdq!

If it’s rats they sound like they’ve got hob nail boots on, you can hear every step. Mice are more scrabbly and quieter when they walk.

Well the saga continues and no end in sight and now starting to freak me out. Tonight I heard them in the ceiling of my daughters room so they are obviously travelling. Have had pest control out twice and no one can identify any points of entry whatsoever. Can't get to whatever it is as it's in the roof cavity and possibly wall cavities. Managed to feed some poison via one of the downlights and he's coming back to check on Wednesday. My worry is I keep hearing about risk of fires from chewing through wires. How quickly does this happen? Is my house at risk and then how would I know if they have? Feel like we are trapped in a nightmare with no resolution as can't get to them to get them out and if they die in the cavity we will have rotting carcasses to deal with. Anyone help at all with advice? Getting very desperate now!!! X
