Can I drill holes in my neighbours fence without permission?

Heard horror stories about problems with plants/gardens etc in neighbour disputes and don't want to start one....but

My neighbours are horrid and I need to attach some vine eyes in their fence to support my grape vines. Am I allowed to without permission? Obviously I'm talking about doing it on the side of the fence in my garden.

We have been to see a solicitor about this recently. If your deeds show that the fence is on your side and it is on your land then you cannot put anything on their fence without their permission. If you do then they can legally get you to remove it and make good any damage to the fence. Be careful. I have the same problem with my neighbours. They claimed the fence in question was theirs but looking at my deeds I found it was mine and the fence has been erected on my side of the concrete posts. They have grown shrubs so close to the fence that it has damaged the fence by pushing on the slats and the whole fence is in danger of falling down. Put your own fence up but don't ruin theirs.
