Help me plan my kitchen...

On a very tight budget Blush

Kitchen is very similar to the one in the picture, apart from no extra unit between fridge and cooker. Where the cooker is in the picture, I have a small window so mine can’t go there. Alongside my fridge is the radiator which I’ve had to turn off as it was the only place the —stupid— American fridge would fit.

Ideally I would like -

  1. The run of units along the small window wall (so cooker wall on pic) to end just after the window so that I can switch the radiator back on and have a breakfast bar above it
  1. My cooker point is just to the left of the other window, so it’ll have to stay there but for the sake of my knees I’d prefer a higher built in oven
  1. Id love a dishwasher. The only place that can go is to the right of the sink, which then rules out having either a corner unit at that end, or a unit on the adjoining wall (only big enough for one unit - ie not a corner unit then single)
  1. The issue I’m having is where to put the fridge! If I keep my existing one then I think I’ll have to take a couple of units out from the utility room and put it in there, but that will impact on the floor space in a very small room. I don’t mind buying a new one, but can’t figure out whether to go for a fridge freezer, or built in separates to allow for more desperately needed worktop space.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?Flowers

Had Howdens out today. He has a new interesting idea of half units. Look forward to seeing the plans.

I think I would suggest a double galley layout. The room is quite narrow and then you can stand in front of all the worktop without any dead corners. If you start putting corners in, the sink and hob will end up jammed too closely together.

i'm not sure quite where the radiator is but you may be able to move it or change to a different shape one to fit in a fridge without blocking it. The fridge could be an under counter one. Then you could put your kettle and toaster on that worktop out of the way. I would not give up worktop space for a tall oven but look for a slide and hide oven with telescopic shelves for better access (they are often available as an extra) .

The main thing is it's free to look so go to loads of showrooms to get ideas, look at all the appliances and decide what you want, then go home and google how to do it cheaper. For example some pull out bin units are very expensive but Ikea do it by just standing a frame in a drawer, much more cheaply. You could adapt that idea to another range.

One small suggestion is changing the wall mounted radiator for a hydronic plinth heater.

Frog I think that would probably cost too much, but it is something I thought about.

Not thee isn’t enough room on the other wall for a galley kitchen - there was only a double wall unit above the radiator.

I’ve found a better picture. Where they have the cooker is where mine is now, but I want an eye level one against the small window wall. They have a corner unit at the other end, which tbh I’m leaning towards as it gives of masses of worktop space compared to what I have now. I’m thinking hob next to tall oven unit, then built in fridge, pan drawer base unit - and hopefully a dishwasher before the corner unit?

The radiator is opposite the oven, and the wall there juts in and out, as well as 2 full size doors. I see they have a table and chairs there though, so that may work!

It has now.

That looks pretty workable. Yes I like the extra work space of work top on corner but both companies have suggested I lose it. If I have normal cooker then I will gain further down where old Rayburn is now so wouldn't lose out. I have a small table and chairs. I picked up for extra Christmas guests for £70. It gives me space for pastry etc as I have LA oil cloth on it.
I would changed the single top cupboard for an attractive shelving unit. I always think single ones lol odd. It would be less storage though but you could maybe pick up a second hand one. I got a pine one with three shelves and carved top for £25 once. I keep all my spices on it and display a few pieces between and egg cups collection. You could maybe put coffee, tea and mugs and kettle nearby.
Howdens: I am going on Tuesday to view plans. I heard that you don't accept first price and they start haggling. Also next door has a trade account and has offered me to buy through him and he will get me discount. Very kind. I know someone who has Howdens and it looks very good. It might be worth you getting them out to plan. They do it for free. Then if the haggling doesn't work and not low enough then at least you have a plan. I let you know how much they are saying. They have different prices of units and I think companies are desperate for work just now. Lots of sales at the moment where else were you thinking?

Look odd. Blooming IPad!

Howdens say they give 65% discount but still work out more expensive than these guys with no discount added! How does that work?
