Put in offer, but vendor disappeared

We placed an offer for a house a few days ago following a viewing with the agent, pretty soon after we viewed. The agent seemed happy with the amount (above asking, house has been on the market since autumn with one sale that previously fell through). We had a deadline on the offer because we have a few other potential properties to look at and would prefer to be rejected sooner rather than later. There are no other interested parties according to the agent. We heard nothing so called for an update, agent said he had been trying to contact the vendor since we placed the offer but no response at all. He has called, left messages and sent emails to no avail.

Aside from something terrible that might have happened, this is generally a bad sign, right? I don't much like the thought of the vendor being uncontactable at any point and it's putting me off the house a little. Would you see it as a warning or am I overthinking?

Some people are just chaotic. They just go on holiday without telling the agent, or are generally disorganised.

Some people in the market aren't really serious about selling and end up pulling out.

Alternatively, this could be someone who is both organised and serious, but who has had something happen - could be anything from flu or another illness to a bereavement.

So it might indicate something a bit wrong, or it might just be bad timing/luck. I don't think you can react until you know the real reason.
