Inconsiderate viewer

I'd just like to have a moan really.

I had a viewing arranged for 2 days ago and the lady didn't turn up. The EA phoned her and she said she 'forgot'. She then phoned EA yesterday to apologise and said that her head was all over the place because she'd recently had a bereavement. She asked to book again for this afternoon. I was prepared to give her the benefit of the doubt and agreed to a viewing this afternoon, despite the fact that I would have to take an hour off work for it. Blow me, 5 minutes before the scheduled time she phoned the EA to say that her own sale has fallen through today and she 'wasn't in the mood' to view my house today.

I was absolutely fuming with her. What a total waste of my and the EA's time. Surely 5 mins before is far too late to cancel an appointment? If she's selling a house herself, surely she must know what's involved in having viewers in your home and must realise how inconsiderate this is?

Rant over, thanks for 'listening' :)

Ask the agent to do the viewings - then it's their time wasted. I don't know if it's different in different places, but I think it's quite rare to be mucked about like that. How many viewers are actually serious and not just having a nosey, well, that's another question.

"Not in the mood" doesn't sound particularly serious does it!
I was about to get a bit defensive, as I had to cancel a viewing with 2 hours to go due to accompanying a family member via ambulance to hospital in an emergency. I called as soon as I could (whilst I was waiting for the ambulance) then sent a follow up email that evening stating I was very sorry, but hoped they understood. I am back viewing in a couple of weeks. I think it's a bit too cheeky to just say not in the mood though!

The viewings are done by the EA but I had to leave work to open the house (not comfortable with handing keys over). I'm sure they get annoyed by people doing this too, it wastes everyone's time.

Pink - I'd be fully understanding if it was an emergency, even with just 5 minutes notification, that can happen to anyone and I'd have accepted that no problem. It just gets my goat when people think it's okay to mess other people about because they can't be bothered. I'd just have thought that she would know how annoying it could be as she is also on the market.

Like I say, cancellations or no-shows because of emergencies are totally understandable.

Still, had another viewing today where the couple did turn up so keeping my fingers crossed :)

Leave keys with the estate agent to do the viewings - you are making your life very difficult, and not making it easy for viewings to take place if you always have to be there to open up. This is what you are paying the estate agents to do. It is easier to do viewings without the owners hovering in the back ground.

Glad the other couple turned up OP Smile

Leave the keys with the agent. It seems odd to have to go there and open up.

I had a viewer not turn up twice but he did eventually view and put in an offer. Now, one weeks before I was due to handover the keys, he has pulled out. So frustrating.

Leave the keys with the agent

Emma - that is awful. This whole house selling/buying lark can be so frustrating. Hope you get another buyer soon :)
