How easy is it to do some tiling?

The house I bought has recently been rewired. The electricians did a great job of it and it just meant 7/8 tiles are missing from certain parts in the kitchen due to where they have installed sockets. How easy would it be for me to add in these missing tiles? The current ones are brown 1970s style ones and the plan is to use up some spare white tiles I Have, then paint all the tiles white. I'm on a budget and not sure I can afford to get someone in to do the tiling.
Any one done this themselves?

Tiling is one of those jobs where it's relatively easy to do a basic job, but very difficult to do an excellent one. You should be able to do a patch up job that lasts for a bit. I'm not a fan of tile paint in the long term - it tends to flake and look weird quite quickly, so you might want to think about having it redone in a couple of years time.

In my first house, I got some of the cheapest square white tiles and simply tiled over the existing ones, adding a thick trim at the top. It was good enough to last for a few years until we sorted the kitchen.

Thank you Whiskyowl for responding.
I was worried about how the tile paint would hold up. I might give it a try only because I'm on such a tight budget.
Thanks again, have a lovely day.
