Removals cost? (past 12 months)

Can I ask those of you who moved in the past 12 months what your paid for your removals service?

We're moving a (full) 2 bed terrace 2 miles up the road and the first quote has come in at £950 for removals and £550 for packing. Does this seem about right? We're waiting on 3 more quotes. I had thought it would be nearer £1200.

Fliptotheflop, if thats all you have why not hire a van and do it yourself for £100 or a man with a van or anyvan. Sound a crazy price for that amount.

I moved from a second floor 1 bedroom flat to a house 5 miles away. Cost £250 including 20 boxes & 2 wardrobe boxes

I'm getting quotes at the moment and they are coming in far higher than I expected. I'm going from a 2 bed flat and moving around 30 miles away. First quote was £2600, second was £1800. I am on the second floor with no lift though. I'm guessing that is why.

We moved 180 miles. 2 day move 4 bed to 4 bed. 1800 quid. Packed ourselves
They moved the shed. Involved one huge lorry and a luton box van. They took 3 hours to unpack.
Money well spent. Packed mysrlf cos we had 15 years worth of stuff to chuck!

The quotes are really quite varied. Our vendors have moved the exchange date so I have some extra time to chuck/charity things. I'll get another quote in after that.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I got quotes off four companies in the end and managed to get a final price of £850.
That's to move us from a 2 bed terrace, a mile up the road and is inclusive of a full packing service, removals, and taking down and putting back up 3 wardrobes and a bed. Other quotes ranges from £1500 to £960 so definitely worth shopping around.

Northants, moved 8 miles to and from a 3 bed, paid Pickfords £1300 to include full packing.

Worth every penny.
