Kitchen decisions

We are in the process of replacing/redesigning our kitchen and going round and round in circles when it comes to some of the decisions we have to make.
At the moment we have a range cooker, laminate worktops and a window in the kitchen. We have decided on a gloss handleless kitchen as we are trying to make the kitchen more streamlined. We are a family of five, 2 sixteen year olds and 3 adults so no little people.
The decisions we are struggling with are:

  1. Double, single oven or two single ovens?
  2. Quartz or laminate worktops? Appreciate the price difference but which is more practical?
3.Bi-fold or french doors? We will need some form of window covering so not sure which is most appropriate as Kitchen end of room.
  1. Induction or ceramic hob?
Would be grateful for any help/opinions as feel we could be heading to the divorce court before this kitchen is finished at this rate!!

  1. Two single ovens. You can use just the one when you have an empty nest but when the children have partners and kiddos of their own the two ovens will cater for large gatherings.
  1. Maybe get quotes for both and decide from there. Quartz is beautiful but out of my budget so I will be having laminate. Easy to clean and hard wearing, plus It can be replaced if needed in the future.
  1. How wide is your opening? I think the bifold doors tend to be wider than a set of French doors. I think you can get blinds built into the glass which is pretty nifty.
  1. Induction all day long.

How do you use your current kitchen and what would improve it? I'd start there. What are the frustrations or things you wish you had? Choose what works for you.

We are going for a double oven. Have one already & it works well for us.

We're going for quartz over laminate as want that more luxury feel. There is a significant price deference though.

How wide is the opening? Ours is double door width (174cm) so no point going for bifolds, we're sticking with French doors that open all the way out & can be pinned back. If wider I would go for bifolds.

Definitely induction.

Double oven, quartz worktop and French doors - I have bi-fold which look fabulous but can loose a lot of heat if you don't invest in good glass with good heat insulation. And for me the winter months and the darkness outside add to that feeling somehow.

You would have to be insane to choose ceramic over induction. Really really.

On the others I might allow personal preference to come in ;-).

(My votes are for two single ovens, one of which is a microwave combo; quartz; French doors - or sliding to keep the doors from getting in the way).

2 single ovens
Quartz as basically indestructible
Big opening? Bifolds as can open the entire area (and mine have blinds inside the glass, expensive but worth it) small opening? French doors.
Induction fir the win

Thank you everyone for your ideas, I really wish we hadn't started this project there are too many decisions to make. I think that we have decided on French doors and definitely an induction hob, still not sure what to do about ovens or worktops but i expect we will get there in the end. Thanks again.

I have two ovens plus a microwave combi. Induction definitely. I have a big kitchen but two ovens and two fridges is fantastic for entertaining. Quartz for me. Haven’t used laminate for 20 years. Totally depends on value of house though. Do not over or under spec.

Was in magnet over the weekend and they had what looked like a quartz laminate. Maxtop i think it was called, might be worth looking at if quartz is out of price.

We have handleless white kitchen, very modern and sleek, Induction most definately, it's fab and I've had ceramic and gas in the past. French doors will give you a wider opening if window ope is not much bigger then two doors.
We have the most fabulous laminate counter top. It looks like a combo of poured cement and a limed wood (sounds wonky) but everyone who walks into the kitchen comments on it and strokes it! Laminate has come a long way. I didn't like the idea of breaking all my glass on a stone counter top We have a massive island and were able to get a single length of laminate so no joins.

Thanks again.
almondfinger can I ask where you got your laminate worktop from?
