Would you/have you moved to live near a pub?

One of the things at the top of our wish list for our next move is to live within walking distance of a decent pub. I've never lived near a pub or become a frequent visitor to one but I have this dream of having somewhere nearby for the occasional ad hoc drink and maybe once a week meal out. I'm not sure if we'd actually take advantage as much as I think we would though! No DCs so no reason why not but I don't know if I just like the idea of it, much like you see people on 'Escape to the country' who have the dream of the good life but you wonder whether they actually bother, being they've never been interested in gardening before!

My holiday let is within falling distance of a pub Grin

I assure incoming guests ahead of time that its not a "townie pub" (loud) more of an "eating destination". Like to reassure families with children. Most people are pleased its a nice country pub.

We love it, over the years had meals and drinks passed over the garden wall when we couldn't get out cos the kids had fallen asleep. They've done the same for guests too Smile

New years eve is the loudest time but even then the walls of the pub are the same thickness as the cottage so when we came back early one year we couldn't hear anything.

The food is great, been very lucky having a good landlord.

Not sure I'd want to live next to some of the ones up in London where my Dh has a flat though, I see too many smokers outside.

People laugh at us when I say that a top reason we moved areas was to be nearer our favourite pub. No more designated drivers, just a slightly drunk amble home.

I like to live near a pub, however not too near because we actually lived about 100 yards from one for a few years.

At first it was fine, cosy, a bit scruffy, a 'no drugs' pub. Sometimes there was music on a weekend but only during the day. Nice to pop over for a pie and a pint.

Then it changed hands and was 'modernised'. It lost what had made it a nice pub. It became noisy at night, we had drunks pissing in the garden and one day I found a turd complete with paper.

There was also the entertainment as the drunks made their way home on foot, yelling, and the 'domestics' outside the house.

There were drunk drivers crashing outside, more than once.

The reviews changed from good to as bad as they could get and eventually it closed down. It is now being converted to a supermarket which is going to cause a lot of disruption to anyone who lives near it, deliveries, customers blocking drives etc.

So, I would say be careful how close you are to the pub.

When we came to sell having a pub within walking distance actually devalued the house.
