Diy kitchens painted kitchens

I have a question for anyone with a painted diy kitchens kitchen (we're looking at Norton but think it's the same for all of them). This 20% extra sheen thing. Do they actually become more matt over time? How long do they take to settle down?

Have a couple of sample doors and they just look quite fake (& cheaper looking) than the foil wrapped samples I've had from a local kitchen designer. I think it's the shine.

But it seems bonkers to pay more for a more cheaply constructed door (foil wrapped mdf vs timber) when we can get the real thing for less. Except from the samples it looks less like the real thing than the imitation stuff does Hmm

Would really appreciate experiences. Thank you.

I have norton in mussel colour. It is lovely - no shine! Possibly more noticeable on darker colours?

I have Linwood cornflower blue and it is not shiny. Did the utility room 3 years ago and the kitchen last summer. Certainly not shiny and looks great.

The samples I have are light colours (alabaster & cashmere, think it will be between cashmere and light grey).

Maybe it's more about the grain being more pronounced on the other sample whereas on the diy sample the paint looks thicker (& therefore just a bit shinier). Good to hear other people like their Norton / Linwood kitchens though - anyone fancy sharing pics?

Its quite untidy as just back from school run and tea time but this is ours. Hubby fitted it and I have a larder cabinet and fridge as well. Worktop from Worktop Express. I love it, have the cabinets with wire drawers and wicker vegetable ones under the breakfast bar.

Thank you, the handles are from These Please and none of them match!
We visited the DIY kitchens showroom on the way back from our holiday to York last year, it's definitely worth a trip if you can. Made me decide on the tambour unit by the window. And they have comparison carcasses with all the other kitchen brands so you can see how much better theirs are.

We have a DIY Kitchens' painted alabaster kitchen and it is matt - no sheen.

We had an alabaster kitchen from DIY fitted at our last house. I never noticed a sheen, and we loved it.

That's lovely Cake. Is the worktop oiled wood?

wowfudge · 10/01/2018 20:46

Sorry - just had a look at our kitchen units and there is a very slight sheen, it isn't completely matt. Very slight though.

CakeIsMyFavouriteAndBest · 10/01/2018 21:00

Yes it's oiled iroko, I was worried as I had granite in my tiny kitchen previously but couldn't afford it for this extension. But I love the wood, if it gets marked we can reoil it and iroko is a lovely colour.

Thanks Cake. I think the worktop gives it a lot of character.

We’ve got Hague blue doors. There’s a slight sheen but it certainly isn’t glossy. It’s only been in a few weeks and looks lovely.

Have Luca bespoke painted in F&B black blue, so very dark. It is another Innova door with the 20% sheen warning. Looked great on arrival 11 months ago, pretty much matt with very slight sheen, not perceptibly different now imo.

Ours is Norton in light grey and doesn’t look shiny.

4yearsnosleep · 11/01/2018 12:36

My sample Norton door is light grey and not shiny
