Where to put the cooker?

About to knock through kitchen and dining room and put in an inexpensive kitchen (probably ikea) and I'm struggling as to where to put the freestanding electric cooker. Both rooms have very large windows and wall space is very limited so ideally we'd have a island or perninsula.
Is there any reason why I can't put the cooker in the island? Or does it have to go against a wall?

There's no technical reason why the cooker can't be in an island. Lots of people put the oven or hob in an island, but I've never seen a free-standing cooker arranged that way.

One consideration would be extraction. Building control won't insist you have an extractor by/above the hob, as long as there's one elsewhere, but it is the traditional place :)

I wondered about this as we have a gas hob and NEFF oven/grill in our peninsula unit (previous owner) and I though I would miss my freestanding double oven cooker. I think I convinced myself I could create a slot for a cooker.

But as it happens I haven't missed the separate ovens like I thought I would. If doing it now Id have an induction hob so it is just flat glass when not being used. Are you looking to re use your existing cooker?

Extractor wise there are lots of island hoods and you run the duct along the ceiling to outside, or you can put an Xpelair type extractor on any external wall. Building control will need to approve your knocking through anyway so you can ask them.
