Wetroom gone wrong advice

Hi, just looking for some advice

We had our bathroom redone before Christmas, the house is an old Victorian building and the bathroom is upstairs and has wooden floors.
It was was plumbed years ago we just wanted to freshen it up and make it a wet room.

Unfortunately the person we got in didn’t level the floor correctly when laying the ducaboard and tanking system and the water from the shower doesn’t drain correctly (it goes past the drain and into the bathroom)

They have come back to redo it, and had told us that they would be taking up all the floor tiles and some of the wall tiles and redoing all the leveling etc
It now turns out they want to scim over the new tiles and then lay tiles over this to create the correct levels.
This sounds like a bit of a cop out to me, apart from it raising the floor and putting extra weight on the beams it seems like it’s putting a plaster on an issue rather than fixing it.

Or am I wrong and this is an acceptable solution?

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer

I wouldn't accept that either. What is it doing to the floor level relative to the next room as well, to raise it up by another tile depth plus the skim etc?

Yeah, it will mean a big lip rather than a step so could be a bit of a trip hazard

It was meant to be an easy 1 week job
It took them 3 weeks to get it wrong and now they are back this week for 2/3 days or so they say.

To make matters worse I'm due next week so REALLY want it sorted ASAP but still want it done right

I can't help with the due date Grin but the following might help you feel not quite so despondent by comparison.

We have spent nearly 2 years on renovations that were meant to take 3-6 months. And still haven't had our Wetroom fitted because the tiles got recalled by the manufacturer because they were flawed. New ones were delivered last week after a 2 month wait for re-production, but they are not right either and they are not making any more so we have to choose new ones and start again...

Plus we had a leak in the new roof over Christmas and have no chance of any comeback from the builder etc. It's been a complete nightmare from start to finish with us living in the house throughout while we had no roof. We had no boiler through all of last winter. If it could go wrong, it did. Windows in the wrong place/ wrong size. Walls put up in the wrong place. Ceiling heights which aren't level, Dormer windows with skewed sides. Floors laid with insufficient joists etc.

Never ever again....

@StopCallingMeShirley that sounds horrendous!

We only did a little bit of refurb last year and don't plan on doing more till next year when baby is bigger and we've had time to plan etc
I hope this is the only blip we have

Does it have to be a wet room? Might be better to put an ordinary shower with an enclosure in. Unfortunately wet rooms need really good fitting otherwise you'll continue to experience problems.

We wanted to just have tiles to make the room bigger instead of putting a tray in

It has a glass panel with a drain within that area, we were told using a dukkaboard was similar to using a shower tray as it has the falls built in but you can tile on top

They've only 3 days to sort it this week
And I don't want them doing a hack job either though....

I'm a seasoned renovation junkie, if the water is draining the wrong way now skimming over the tiles will do nothing to correct it. Tiles set over tiles will allow water to become trapped between the two layers if there is the smallest crack or imperfection in the grout, tiles can't do the job of tanking.
Unfortunately the tiles need to come up and the tanking needs to be exposed the levels need to be corrected, at this point you can check them with some marbles or ball bearings just make sure the drain is covered first. Then the tiles can be laid, check carefully that everything is working correctly before you pay for the work.
If I were you I would get someone else to do the work as the timescale they originally allowed was totally unrealistic.
Having babies is easier than renovating

We employed a contractor to do the job who got a sub contractor in
He's gotten a different person to fix it.
We haven't even paid a deposit TG

They are going to take it all up and start again
Hoping the bulk of it will be done tomorrow and Friday and it finished off on Monday
Fingers crossed 🤞

Thanks for the replies
