How much for a 13 unit kitchen?!

Hi mums!

I went to Wren at the weekend and they designed a kitchen for us (I don't want a review of wren as I have had many mixed reviews so I know where I stand with them!)
It is 13 unit (some of which make an island), flat pack vogue shaker style (shrink wrapped doors) no fancy magic drawers or anything, just standard cupboards and drawers, quartz worktops and a 90cm rangemaster. The rangemaster is the only new appliance we need as we have everything else. I want quartz as we have timber and it's hard to up keep, but I don't want to go for laminate (I just don't like the look)
The quote has come out at £9700k and that is meant to be with discounts! When I added everything up separately it does not seem like we got a discount at all.
Am I mad or is this alot? They said it was originally £12k but i still don't think £9700 in their Jan sales of 50% + 25% off is enough (they claim it's only off the units).
I am waiting to get quotes back from other places. DIY kitchens came in over £1000 cheaper. However that was more the quartz than the kitchen. Wren claim to match any quote too so I am trying to better it.
I can get the quartz and rangemaster cheaper elsewhere if needs be.
The actual kitchen works out at around £3300, which doesn't make sense as in their brochure a 12 unit kitchen is £2300 for the flatpack style I think. I queried why the kitchen is coming out so much as I thought it was 50% +25% off and they said their brochure price is the discount price?! How is this so?! Are they just fake discounts? and if so, how much can I realistically get off what they quoted. I have attached a list of what they are charging for the units, and I really don't know if this is a discounted price or not, as list price and promo price say the same (which they say is a glitch...yea right, more like there is no discount!)
I just don't want to get ripped off!
If anyone has experience of what is a fair price to pay of a kitchen this size and spec, and also what I can realistically haggle it down to, then that would be fab!

I can't offer advice on Wren, but I would take into account that flatpack vs prebuilt will change installation costs considerably!

I suggest you compare with diy-kitchens. They supply the units ready assembled which will save fitting costs and they currently have 10% discount and no shady pricing policy.

If you search you will find many great reviews on diy.

This is our kitchen which is 14400 all in. That includes £2500 quartz and £3500 on new appliances

Don't go to Magnet then - it will be twice the price. And that's with allegedly 75% off.

Elmosmum · 09/01/2018 16:34

In your screen shot there is no discount applied to the units?

wowfudge · 09/01/2018 16:35

Just looking at your quote - none of the units are discounted, but the other items are. Go with DIY - cheaper and you don't have to build the units. You don't even have details of what Wren will charge you to deliver the kitchen yet.

wowfudge · 09/01/2018 16:39

Just had a look at their website and the kitchen you're looking at is at an 'every day low price' so it's not in the sale.

How does this work? Confused as DIY but you don't have to do it yourself! Sorry - new to kitchens!

I had a quote for my dream kitchen.

£34k.

It did have 38 units though! Grin

Baxdream · 09/01/2018 16:50

Just to add my kitchen is howdens with Topsco worktops. They come built like diy kitchens

After seeing numerous recommendations on here and having a design drawn up by Karen at OnePlan (again because of recommendations on MN), we've just been quoted £4,000 for 14 units and sink and knobs etc by DIY-Kitchens. Can't wait to order it and have it fitted!

@DerelictWreck DIY Kitchens is an online kitchen retailer. They have one showroom next to their factory near Pontefract. They do not have designers or sales people. You design your own layout (or use one someone else has done for you), order online, add delivery option of your choice. They tell you when you order when your kitchen will be ready. One of the best things is that the units are delivered rigid so no building flat packs.

Ahhh thanks @wowfudge!

The other good thing about DIY kitchens are:

  1. their kitchens are very good quality for the money. I have a mid range Howdens matt slab kitchen in my house, I ordered a DIY kitchen sample door to look at adding a couple of cupboards. The colour match was perfect but the DIY door was thicker, heavier, with a lovely smooth seamless paint finish rather than stuck on vinyl with visible edges. The cabinets are much more robust with good edgings and solid backs. They also have masses of different sizes and types of unit.
  1. They are completely transparent about the prices so you can see that a curved feature unit adds £500 or that it's only an extra £50 to have pull out wire baskets etc, you can customise your kitchen more than a big-chain designer would be bothered to.

I’ve had some samples from Diy kitchens recently as I’m planning on ordering a new kitchen very soon for my new house. The samples are great (refundable as well!) and I am definitely going for handless Luca matt white here, as the paint finish is so smooooth and the best I’ve seen:-)
