Hi guys wondering if you could help.

I want to put a dishwasher in my kitchen.
Problem I've got is it's a ha house and I'm not due another kitchen for 10 years (they have said yes to a dishwasher btw)

Anyway the only place I've got to put it is a double cupboard under my sink (so the dishwasher would be under the draining board)

I no ide need a plumber to do pipe work for it but what I'm wondering is would i need a carpenter too to amend the cupboard or would the plumber do that coz he would know where he needs holes etc.

I've googled and it looks simple enough to cut down a cupboard but my dh is disabled so we would have to hire someone.
Thanks in advance

You might be able to take the cupboard yourself. Most kitchens come as carcasses and are just boxes screwed together with doors on them. Get yourself a screwdriver/drill and see if you can find all the screws that hold the carcass next to their next door neighbours and on the wall. The only thing next will be how to get rid of it - are you able to get it to the tip?

Otherwise hire a handyman. They will do small jobs like that although it may be more cost effective to group a bunch of jobs together and get a half day out of him.

Thanks guys.
I'm useless with diy I could undo the cupboard but as I would need to cut it down that's the part I couldn't do.

We actually hired a fantastic handy man 7/8 months ago so I'll ask him for a quote.

Thanks for your help

It probably isn't as simple as just getting rid of a cupboard, since it's going into a double unit under the sink. Effectively you'd be cutting a double unit in half and building a new side, which might be tricky to do neatly in situ without wrecking the worktop. I appreciate space is often tight in kitchens, but is there absolutely no other cupboard you could use instead? You can sometimes plumb in a dishwasher a short way from the sink, and one on the end of a run might be easier to deal with! Or could you move your washing machine into another space and put the dishwasher there instead?

Actually whisky owl is right. Standard single width cupboards and dishwashers are 60cm. So a double is going to be tricky.
