Hello

I’m after some advice
Attached is a photo of myself and my husbands new front room. As you can see on the photo the fireplace isn’t centralised.

Can we move the gas fireplace so it is more central? If so is it an easy Job to do?

Yes you can. You need a gas safe person to do it. Fire gets disconnected, extra length of pipe added, fire moved, connected. The surround and hearth will be more of an arse than the actual fire but I’m sure it’s do’able.

There was an off centre fireplace in my house when I moved in. The position was very annoying and I always wondered why it was off centre. Probably a good reason for the time (1930s).

Anyway I hired someoone whose speciality was chimneys and flues. The gas fire was first removed by a gas safe registered person.

If I remember the fireplace was knocked out and rebuilt in a central position. It was then covered up until I got a new fire and surround installed a few weeks later.

At the time (about 15 years ago) I think it cost around £100 to knock out and rebuild the opening.

It's probably off centre because of the chimney position - especially if there's a shared chimney with next door, assuming that's a party wall, or there was a fireplace in a bedroom above.

Thanks everyone for your message

We have spoken to someone and when we are in the property he is going to one and assess the situation :)
