Replacing lintels claim on insurance?

I think some of my lintels need replacing.
Anyone know if I can claim on buildings insurance or the cost? I know I'll need to get a builder in

Is it due to settlement? Or age or shoddy building work?? Why do you think they need replacing?

candlefloozy · 05/01/2018 10:31

Some of them are badly cracked and have holes in. My dad said they need replacing.
We have no idea. So I'm sorry if I sound stupid.

I dont think lintels should crack unless there is a problem with the building's structure l. It might be worth calling your buildings insurance company. Take some photos to send to them.

We got a lintel patched up but did look at getting it replaced. Insurance would not cover it as ongoing maintenance.

Snowman41 · 05/01/2018 10:57

I don't think maintenance is covered under insurance.

Ok thanks all. We just wasn't sure. I think I'll have to get a builder round

How old is your home? If it is old enough to originally have had crital / metal framed windows, which have been replaced with plastic double glazing, then the installers should have installed appropriate lintels make up for the new frames offering little or no support to the walls above. Not unknown. Not an insurance claim. A good builder will be able to sort out.

Good luck

Think it's about 1950s. It looks like concrete? With some holes and cracks
