5.7m x 2m rear extension.... Worth it?

Hi all.

I'm looking at a 5.7m x 2m rear extension to act as a play room of sorts for our little girl... I'm just worried about the size? The length seems fine to me at 5.7m I'm just concerned at the 2m width.

Has anyone had an extension/lean to/conservatory fitted roughly this size and would they recommend? And if anyone has do they have any photos of what I can expect size wise? I've looked everywhere online for people who've put pics up of there's similar to this size to no luck...

Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance

The cat likes it! 😂

Here! We don't have kids - middle aged - so just socialising & pottering around - if we had a young family I guess it would be an issue.

Oh it's amazing!!! Were you on the gardening thread a while ago, it looks familiar.

It's got everything you need out there. With a bit of rearranging I think I could do it.

Rockstar53 thanks so much, I have been looking at DIY kitchens and that is so helpful as I will be getting some sample doors, but its to far to visit the showroom

My side extension is 1m wide - 85cm internally once plastered etc
and the spaces I've created in there feel MUCH bigger than that
(to the point that I use a tape measure to prove how narrow they are compared with how they feel)

Hello, how much was your extension please? Just so I have a ball park figure.
Thanks

I'm buying a place with an extension added (like an L to original 2 bed house) - its 2.7m wide, and about 5.5 m long, adding a tiny 'utility' (really a hall with space for washer & dryer) a study, and a downstairs loo/shower

Its decimated the small garden so that might affect my ability to sell on: but I would not have bought one of the unextended houses as I required a downstairs WC/shower, a downstairs bedroom space or study, & like the utility: so yes, its worth it to me even though its not a big space (glad I am not living through the works though)

@TeamDixon I'd love to talk to you offline about this if possible? We have just started planning a 8x2 rear extension with the same layout as yours, with a small utility room on the side. I can already see one thing we hadn't considered from your photos (Pillar in kitchen where we were planning a cupboard!) So it would be a massive help to see what worked and what didn't

TeamRick · 24/05/2021 10:38

Hi TeamFirth

That pillar holds the waste pipes from the bathroom so no possibility of getting rid of it! We just used a shallow base cupboard so we could continue the run of units!

Does that help?

Interesting, is that the only reason you have a pillar there? It's not structural?

TeamRick · 24/05/2021 12:53

Here, the beam & the the other side!
There is a lip on the ceiling too - we weren't happy with that but tbh we were at the end of our tether with the builder by then so just accepted it?
