what to fix on chair legs to stop them scratching floor?

At the moment I’ve got a felty self adhesive sheet that you cut to size and stick on chair legs etc to stop them scratching the wooden floors, but they aren’t great. The stickiness picks up fluff and hair and makes a halo of filth round the chair leg, and then after a while the pads fall off!
There must be a smarter and more permanent solution...anyone?

Hi you can get rubber ones, that either screw or stick to the chair leg.
Bit more robust than the felt ones, but they still attract dust.

I guess at least with rubber ins you can wipe the dust etc off. Are these ones that would sit under the leg, rather than round it?

I have felty ones and a long-haired white dog! I just scoop up the fluff every couple of days. The sticky pads stay stuck for years though, i can't remember the last time i bought new ones.

I must have bought rubbish ones! It’s driving me a little bonkers, and my new yrs resolution is to sort out some of the smaller things that annoy me...before moving on to actual important issues!! 😁😁

Oh my goodness! That’s what I need!
Do the chairs actually roll along, or just slide smoothly?
Amazing, that you!!

Have the felt pads but ones bought recently have a pin so you bang them in. much better than the sticky ones which dont stay put. they also seem to fit better. Homebase or Robert Dyas have them

These don’t fall off: www.wagner-webshop.com/en/quickclick.html

I think the hair will probably collect around anything. I just hoover it off as I go past!

Are those the hard grey plastic discs? With a surface that feels sort of waxy like a non-stick pan?

Have used them on carpeted floors with great success, haven't tried them on hard floors.

BTW if you need to slide an appliance on a hard floor, spray furniture polish on the (clean) floor first (you can use WD40 on a vinyl floor) and it will slither along more easily.

I plan to fit the appliance versions to my white goods this weekend so I can let you know how they work on those, but on just pushing them with my hand on the kitchen vinyl floor they were amazing.

Yes. They also come in black but same principle of extremely low friction PTFE on the contact side for the smooth pushing.

TeeBee · 05/01/2018 09:38

I use castor cups but also look up chair leg caps.

The magiglides are now fitted to our white goods. The heaviest thing was the washing machine. Before fitting, it took both me and OH to 'walk' it in and out of the gap. After fitting them, it was literally possible for one person to slide it back in one handed (although you need two for control and more ease).

So would they be good for chairs? Well, depends whether you want your chairs to slide more than you want them to stay put, as I think very slight movement would have them skating across the floor.

If you only wanted to prevent scuffing and grot collecting on the bases, then I'd say no.
But if you want chairs you can move at the push of a hand, then yes.

HTH!

Thanks Shotsfired! I’ve already ordered some, so I might fit some to one chair and experiment!
Kind of you to update. Cheers!
