Shoe box kitchens.

Dp has finally said yes to a new kitchen and given in after seeing how little space we have at Christmas. We don't have a work surface big enough to roll out pastry!

Just looking for a few pointers I guess.

I've got wren and Wickes to come out and measure up and do us plans. I'm looking at the neff hide and slide oven which I seem to have found for a reasonable price. we're aiming to spend 5/6k as we get married in April.

I've been recommended my builder.com for installation quotes as hear the companies can be v expensive.

FIL and DP can do the tiling.

My lovely mil has suggested haggling with the big companies (she got an awful lot off this way) but I really need some tips I just feel like an idiot trying to haggle!

Thanks 😊

I'm not sure I would use wren , look at some of the reviews on here and the rest of the internet. Some total disaster stories . Have a look at IKEA or DIY kitchens.

Also be weary of websites like my builder alot take down the bad reviews so all you see are the glowing reviews.

Great advice! Thank you

Am I right in thinking that hide and slide ovens are at eye level? You might get more workspace if you get an oven that goes under the work surface?

IKEA are great for space saving ideas even if you go elsewhere. We have magnetic knife racks and and hooks to use the walls for storage. As our kitchen isn't square, our builder used a funny space at the end of the lower cabinets to build slots for the chopping boards. The trick is to get as much off the surfaces as possible. Some people also use systems to hook pans from ceiling

I'll defo look at IKEA.

The hide and slide will be below work surface and reasoning is because it's a small galley style kitchen with the bathroom off one end the open oven door blocks the route and you can put money on the members of this family needing to pee desperately whilst I'm dishing up. May as well get a conveyor belt for them- like a convoy!

Another voice urging caution with wren. Look at online feedback.

Ikea kitchens are brilliant to use, but an absolute nightmare to order and obtain. I made the mistake of ordering one and I am rueing the day. It was supposed to come on 27th December, NOTHING turned up and now I've been told that the kitchen will come across FIVE ORDERS until 5th February! I'm so pissed off!

The internal fixtures and fittings for Ikea are brilliant, but don't necessarily fit other drawers/cupboards, so do check before you buy.

If you're having quartz worktops, I've found it's much cheaper to buy these direct than to get them packaged in the kitchen. Ditto for appliances.
