Coloured upvc windows?

Renovating a old ex council house. Complete renovation Shock.

The windows are old aluminium double glazing. They've seen better days and will need replacing if I can afford it

Has anyone had coloured pvc windows? It's a rural house and thinking a sage green colour? Or cream? The external walls are a yellowy brick with some rendering in places.

Is it more expensive? Will it look odd compares to rest of street (mixture of different age houses in different styles)?

Tia

Cream sounds nice, or perhaps a dark grey? I suppose the safest colour is white.

AJPTaylor · 03/01/2018 22:50

I really wouldnt
Apparently dark grey is really popular but i think it will just stick out like stone cladding in a few years.
Stick with white with a nice green door.

savagehk · 03/01/2018 22:54

I'd stick with white too. Unless you can really push the budget out and go for wooden instead.

Dowser · 04/01/2018 00:39

No, don’t like them.
White definitely

Littlecaf · 04/01/2018 03:03

White - colours are s fashion thing where as white will stay

elmo1980 · 04/01/2018 03:52

We live in a small row of very old houses and they all have different colours- only one white which looks the worst out of all of them. We went for sage green but i really do think it depends in the style of the house, white is usually safer for a more modern house I would say.

Oooo, thanks for the replies.

I'm v undecided. But was thinking with sticking to a more traditional rural feel rather than the modern grey.

Wood will be way out of budget.

Interesting that so many think stick with white. It would fit the street. I still like the idea of cream (worried it may look like yellow old pvc) or sage green to complement the yellow bricks and cream render. But windows are an expense that hopefully will last 15-20 yrs. Don't want a fashion fad.

Elmo were tours much more expensive than white? If you don't mind me asking.

Every little decision I have had to make on this house I'm finding really difficult!

I don't think they were much more expensive as we were on a tight budget as it was. We had to do all Windows front and back plus front door so went for colour at the front and white at the back - that saved a few pounds. Paid about £5.5k in total.

There was someone on Mumsnet who went with sage green as part of her cottage makeover. She posted after pictures and it was glorious. Am going to hunt them up!

TeddyBee · 06/01/2018 18:18

Or tada even...

user1471530109 · 06/01/2018 19:00

Oh wow!
I remember her first thread but hadn't seen the update. That's exactly the kind of thing I had in mind. Similar colourings to my house, but not quite as old and lovely!

Thanks very much. Still v undecided. I think it will have a massive impact and the idea of just front of house is a good one.

Thanks for all your comments

We have some Chartwell green which looks great in a rural setting, but it might depend on what is around you

MrBennOfFestiveRoad · 08/01/2018 17:03

Slightly late to this... We have "off-white", which look cream, grain effect PVC windows. It is an old rural cottage and they were put in by the previous owners but I think look really good and people generally assume that they're wood, as did we when we initially looked at the outside of the house. I think that the grain effect stops them from just looking like yellowed PVC.

That does look wonderful!

I was wondering if rendering would finish off the transformation Wink

There is so much to do to make it habitable that I need to put this on hold for a few months and reassess finances.

Thanks for everyone's comments and opinions.
