Is there a thing that looks like wood panelling you can have around a shower / bath?

Like this pic (nicked) that won’t go all soggy?

Meant to add. I get that pic has a shower curtain that presumably goes between bath and wall when showering. Well that isn’t ever going to actually happen in our house so I’d like a solution that looks the same but doesn’t swell and distort

The shower curtain has to hang in.the bath when showering or the water will just go down the curtain onto the floor. If you seriously cannot take showers without getting water all over the place then maybe a separate shower enclosure would be better?

Caprinihahahaha · 30/12/2017 00:27

No
If water is going to run down it then it can’t be wood

There are floor tiles that look like wood but I’ve never seen tiles suitable for walls that can be laid to look like wood

PigletJohn · 30/12/2017 00:28

there are laminated waterproof panels that are used to line the walls or build cubicles, but they are flat.

Are any of these what you had mind?

Lots of different ones, some look like tiles, some don't.
We have grey panels in our shower - they are easy to install, look great and easy to clean.

Caprinihahahaha · 30/12/2017 00:45

I have tiles like that but I thought the op was looking for wood?

ToHereWithIt · 30/12/2017 00:57

I have panelling from Recosurfaces.com that is great and can go over existing tiles if necessary. They do all kinds but you can have them custom made/printed too if they don't already stock it.

Haint · 30/12/2017 11:03

Which is precisely why I said “looks like wood” and what I meant wasn’t that it needed to be coloured / grained like wood but to give the impression of panelling rather than totally flat as per the bath panels i have come across so far

And yes wowfudge, of course a separate cubical would be preferable but clearly if someone is planning a shower over a bath then it’s probably safe to assume they don’t have room for one

Thanks for those links both. From a quick glance they do seem to be either flat or tile effect. I’m after something chunkier iyswim

Clearly a gap in the market. I may invent something once I’ve finished splashing water around like a deranged toddler.

You could make one.
That picture looks like a Victorian door. With another door alongside. Both simply attached to the wall.
Then some wood attached to the top to create the 'mantle'.

But some Victorian doors - salvage places are full of them.
Undercoat them very very well.
Paint with outdoor gloss woodwork paint - the type you use on external window frames, soffit, front doors etc.

Take care with showering and sand down and re-paint doors when necessary.

BehindLockNumberNine · 30/12/2017 11:18

Buy, not but...

MynewnameisKy · 30/12/2017 11:21

I think Marbrex make one. Can't find a link though.

Haint · 30/12/2017 11:26

Now there’s an idea behind 🤔 I like an innovative solution and am not adverse to a bit of experimental DIY

OP posts:
BehindLockNumberNine · 30/12/2017 11:27

You could fill the tin gap between the two (or more, I don't know how big the area is you are trying to cover) with woodfiller and sand, undercoat and paint it, to hide the joint.

BehindLockNumberNine · 30/12/2017 11:28

That can be your new year's project.
:)

wowfudge · 30/12/2017 18:07

It isn't clear at all OP that someone planning a shower over the bath doesn't have the room for it. It could just be personal preference or that they think there isn't enough space. I don't understand why it would be so hard to make sure the shower curtain was used whenever anyone was having a shower.

Haint · 30/12/2017 20:02

Because three members of our family are under 10 and as yet not entirely reliable in many ways. Needing to hermetically seal themselves under a gushing torrent of water is likely to be one of these. Splashing is fun when you’re 8. Being very careful to not leave a gap between a curtain and wall less so

I think that is a really great idea you have come up With Haint. Dragons den?!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 30/12/2017 23:38

Surely if you stick Victorian panelled doors to your wall they would be too thick and stick out too far?

PigletJohn · 31/12/2017 00:08

and they'll warp, and possibly rot.

We used upvc ceiling panels to make our bath panel and its lasted years so maybe you could use something like jpg door panels and ensure they are really well sealed.
