New house. New kitchen. Very limited time!

I have bought a new house. New start for me and my girls after divorce. I have just 8 weeks before my rental runs out.

I need to plan and fit a new kitchen. The old one is already out!
Got an appointment at IKEA tomorrow and keeping an eye out for any bargains elsewhere.

Think I want a grey shaker style (which is v different to my lovely gloss modern kitchen at previous house) as new house is rural.

I've always wanted a range cooker. Are they practical? Would I be better with a built in double oven? Slide and hide?
Kitchen is smallish. 4x3m (rounded) but I'm hoping to extend into a lean to at side to allow a dining table.

Anyone got any bargains on a budget? Any regrets? Reviews of IKEA?
Whole house needs an overhaul so can't blow the budget on the kitchen.

Had a range cooker. Would have a double oven in a heart beat!

Try Wickes if you are on a budget. Got a fabulous kitchen from them, great quality and they had a list of recommended fitter. The design service was very good. The one who we had was amazing. Don't get the appliances from them though, they were cheaper and better quality brands from Currys.

Thanks for the suggestions. Will have a look for the nearest wickes. Tbh, IKEA was mainly down to speed. I have a friend who is going to for it.

Why not a range girl? It's always been in my dream kitchen but it went with the big family home (which doesn't really fit anymore). If you don't mind me asking, what don't you like about your range?

I'm excited but more stressed due to time constraints. It's all a bit overwhelming!

Friend to fit it that should say.

IKEA is great for kitchens, thousands less than most others. Some threads on here about how the cupboards are deeper so you need deeper worktop/worktop from IKEA to make sure it covers it, but never had any problem with ours or appliances not from IKEA.

Planning and design service is great, fitted it ourselves easily.

Thanks!

Anyone got a thing to say about the bodbyn grey kitchen? Is it dark? Some pics are v dark.

Making decisions on my own without someone to bounce ideas off is really hard! I am feeling the pressure.

I'm thinking butchers block laminate worktop. Mainly practical reasons but also cost.
I had a wonderful quartz in last kitchen. Will I regret laminate? i remember stroking the quartz for weeks

You can get a small table in a 4x3m kitchen. We have built in bench units with storage underneath. We do compromise cupboard space for it though.

I'd love a range cooker but I can't afford to compromise the cupboard space for it at the moment. Maybe if I got rid of the table...

DIY kitchens are promising delivery w/c 15th Jan but I think ikea would be a good shout. I'd be happy with laminate but I don't love the wood effect ones.

There is a mner with a lovely Ikea kitchen, I think it may be talkinpeace?
She has posted pics of it before, so you may find them if you use advanced search.
My only reservation over the grey kitchen is that I think grey has perhaps had its day?

EagleRay · 27/12/2017 01:27

I’ve got an IKEA kitchen but I got the drawer/door fronts from elsewhere (they’re Formica/ply) so looks nothing like IKEA. It did cost more, but still less than a kitchen from elsewhere

It is more fiddly doing it that way but it meant I could choose exactly how it looked

RedastheRose · 27/12/2017 22:26

I've had 2 rangemaster range cookers. 90cm and full size. Loved the 90cm one was a bit disappointed with the full size one and seals on door didn't work properly.

TheSpottedZebra · 27/12/2017 22:33

Have you had a read of the loooong kitchen design thread on here? Worth a read if not. There are a couple of follow ups too.

I like ikea - great quality for the price and convenience.

Gibble1 · 27/12/2017 22:44

I have the Ikea bodbyn grey kitchen. It was finished on the 19th. I love it. I absolutely could not be happier with it at all. I just love it. I have the 1m high wall units which come to the ceiling and there is just so much space. The only thing we didn’t buy was a dishwasher as we had to replace the old one in the summer.
There were a couple of head scratcher moments due to the pipework having to run along the inside of the cupboards as there is no space at the back but it’s all in and sorted with minimal fuss.
I just love it.
I went for the oak effect laminate and it’s not smooth so it hides the fact it’s laminate.

I bought my 90cm rangemaster on ebay - keep an eye out for a bargain - and if you ever plan to move you can take it with you.

I personally love Ikea kitchens.

Baxdream · 28/12/2017 10:23

I've just had fairford fitted and we're really pleased

Thank you all so much with your suggestions and help.

I've gone with IKEA. They are delivering Sunday! Bodbyn grey and wooden butcher block work tops (which I am nervous about as my kids and I are v clumsy. But at the price they quoted it was way cheaper than laminate).

Very excited now. Now need to sort out building control for extension/conservatory on side.

Go for an orangery with walls rather than a conservatory - which are generally freezing in winter and boiling in summer.

Gibble1 · 01/01/2018 00:56

I had a pm asking about my kitchen so I have figured out how to upload (admittedly shoddy) photos. Please excuse the Christmas mess and poor lighting!
