Converting a conservatory

DH and I moved into a new house a few days ago. It has a conservatory. Neither of us particularly like them (cold in winter, hot in summer) and although this seems a substantial one with a brick built base etc it's not great. We thought we could live with it but are discovering that the kitchen is the most stupid design ever, with no space. We were wondering about knocking the kitchen and conservatory together to make a bigger room. Obv this would involve building a proper extension where the conservatory is now.

Before we waste Christmas dreaming about this and before we speak to the planning office does anyone know if this is easier to get permission for if there's a structure already in place ?

OP thinking of doing similar. There is a permitted development thing where you don't need planning permission. You can extend out by a certain number of metres. Likely the conservatory foundations would be shallower than an extension so it would have to be knocked.

Our conservatory is about 15 years old, it's in okay condition now but cold in winter, boiling in summer. Our Kitchen space could be reconfigured better with an extension. Good luck OP and happy new house.

We’re planning on doing the same after moving in a couple of months ago. We’ve had an architect round and a builder to give approximate costs before we get carried away in the planning dreams. We also had someone round to quote on tarting up the conservatory so we have comparison costs. All the planning guidance is online as lisette said.
