Hi Peeps

So i thought a rug might bring our lounge together a bit more but cant decide. Problem is carpet is polypropolene so already concerned about a fire risk. The first rug is the only wool one, the others are polypropolene. Any wise thoughts anyone or suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Myakka have some lovely rugs too. Failing that I say no 3.

Definitely the habitat one.

I’d have said the second one untilI saw your curtains, so now the Habitat one.

I also applaud your username Grin

I like the third one best but I think that the middle one suits your room best.

I prefer the yellow one

Thanks all for taking time to post your thoughts! It looks between 2 and 3 but maybe I need to order the habitat one to see how it looks. Arghhhhhhhh! I think I might keep no 1 and put it in the dining room .....

I have always struggled with rugs not being the perfect size/shape for my rooms and where I need it to sit with respect to sofas.

Also many are not great quality and much more expensive per m2.

What I do now is choose a quality proper wool carpet and have cut to the exact size and shape that I need and then have it 'whipped'. This is the sewn edging that you see on a carpet sample. You can have this the same colour or as a contrast trim. Alternatively you can also add a blinding or fringing. There are many companies that do this eg www.thecarpetwhippingco.co.uk/, but the local flooring guy that I bought my carpet from arranged all of this direct.

I also put a quality deep underlay on hard floors but you wouldn't need it on carpet.

They are easy to hoover and have cleaned - you can choose any colour / pattern and texture you like. I think that patterned rugs pull the room in and make it smaller - I prefer to use pattern on accessories / soft furnishings that can be cheaply and easily changed / rearranged - and keep the bones (walls and floors) neutral.
