A rated tumble dryer in brick shed

feeling overwhelmed and confused by conflicting advice I have been given.

We recently felt the need to get a tymble dryer (baby / aupair / rain ...)
We redid thekitchen under three years ago and did not leave room for tumble dryer.
We have a brick shed in the garden with enough room for the machine. Now here is where it gets complicated

  1. John lewis sales person told me an A rated dryer would not work in a shed due to big variations in temperature. Have got one that is working just fine ?
  2. the electrician wants to put a seperate circuit running from the electricity meter. This would mean that we will need to redecorate once his done. I am not very keen on this as we have just redecorated. We could run it on the same circuit of one of the bedrooms where no other appliances are used. Any experience ??

Your feedback would mean that I get my bedroom back as it now invaded by drying clothes. It will also mean that the number of bruises on my legs from bumping into the bed will considerably reduce. Thanks and Merry Xmas

Our electrician found room for a second circuit board within the outside meter box? Might be an option!

Oh and my mum had an Ancient tumble dryer in a wooden shed. Maybe get second hand if you’re worried about ruining a brand new one?

Seems like common practice to put it the shed. I was hoping we can get an A rated

Hello...we got rid of an old dryer that worked in any temperature always... The new ‘A’ rated one does not work very well in the garage in winter...but is fine in summer...so it has to come in and sit in the conservatory!!! May well be due to temperature fluctuations. It just did not seem to dry very well...on cycles that worked fine in warmer weather.

Just a note of caution...

Yes I have a Bosch A rated dryer in my brick shed.
I've had it for around 7 years and never had a problem with it.

cakeymccakington · 23/12/2017 12:20

Oh we do have a separate circuit running out to the shed

Thanks ladies. Off to buy one. Bye bye bruises

We have an a-rated one in a single layer brick shed at work. It works fine all year round. It's a condenser one.

Every tumble drier I've had in last 20 years has run in an unheated add-on to my house, with a window open. Even when the water froze in the washing machine pipes ,the tumble drier worked fine.

Ime, the only issue is, if you don't empty it for a long time after cycle is done, the clothes can get so cold, that it's hard to tell if they're completely dry. So you flick it back on for 5 mins. Or be more organised than I am. Hardly a major issue.

We have ours in what used to be the outside loo, it doesn't have a door it's just an enclosed space with three brick walls. Never had any issues at all, there is a power socket in their that runs from the house.
