Bathroom floor advice needed.

Hi! I'm really hoping somebody can offer me some good advice.
My bathroom floor has small tiles on it. Many were loose or damp/mouldy underneath so I have had to pull them up.
Initially I thought that I'd pull-up the whole floor of tiles but it's proving a tough job to do personally and I can't find a contractor willing to do it.
So, would I be able to either:

Replace the missing tiles to create an even floor then cover over with the flooring I want?

Or
Use leveller to fill in the missing tiles and create a smooth surface where the tiles are missing then recover the tiles.

Picture of the floor attached, how would you tackle this? Thanks!

Is the bathroom on the ground floor or an upper floor of a house or is it in a flat? I ask because if this in a house and not on the ground floor, there should be floorboards under something like ply which has been nailed or screwed on top of them to provide a level surface for tiling. Pull the ply board and the tiles up instead of chiselling off the tiles.

Do you know whether the floor is damp because of poor grouting or the wrong grout being used or has there been a leak? If there has been a leak, has it been fixed?

Thanks! Yes there's plywood as it's the upper floor of a house. The leak came from a badly fitted shower unit but this has now been replaced.

Pull the plywood up - far easier than chopping the tiles up. Wear safety goggles though. Then get it re-plyed and fit the flooring you want. Depending on the state of the floorboards, you may need to let her dry out for a few weeks before having the floor re-done.

I’d also treat the floor before putting new tiles down. Personally, wouldn’t do patching up but the get the floor re-done properly (so it doesn’t look a complete mess).

As above. The plumber who repaired the leak helped me pull up the ply board. But could have done it myself with a claw hammer.

The flooring company we used boarded it out for us again.
