We are planning a kitchen extension and we want underfloor heating as the only source of heating. We are out of the house a lot and putting it on for the entire winter seems wasteful, so I've been looking into faster response options like flow screed and Fermacell boards. Does anyone have any experience of these?

Also any recommendations for particular systems or suppliers (London/ Kent) or any other underfloor heating wisdom? Thanks!

I have only just installed wet UFH, and I'm still learning how to use it.

You do have it running all the time, but it's not like having other heating running constantly because the pipes are heated to a much, much lower level. There's a kind of "low" setting, which basically just keeps the room temperature from falling too far and allows the system to be booted up quickly and a "high" setting (still really cool compared to rads) where more heat is released. My builder describes the heat as "subliminal" - it's really gentle and you don't notice the source, it's just pleasant around you.

Good time to get it whiskeyowl it's so cold... thing is we are typically out from 7 till 5 and the same on Saturdays. We are downstairs for an hour or two in the evenings and then off to bed. Seems mad to have the heating on all the time if we aren't there to enjoy it. Heating extension floor wouldn't benefit upstairs because it's nowhere near the bedroom.

I'd love to know what the additional cost is of heating say 25 square m over the winter months, with the heating on all the time.

I was looking at this sort of approach --https://www.gyvlon.co.uk/en/applications/underfloor-heating--
