What type of screws to use

I need to put up a wooden coat rack. The wall is solid brick but has been covered with plasterboard and plastered over. I know this is a basic question but how do I figure out how long the screws need to be and what type?

Is the plasterboard in contact with the brickwork, or is there a cavity between the plasterboard and wall?
What is the set up with the coat rack - are there holes in the wooden rack itself that the scores will go through, or are there brackets attached, or other type of fixing system?
A photo might help ......

Something like a No.10x 63mm screw would be ideal with either a red or brown wall plug (6mm or 7mm).

Thank you the plasterboard is attached to the wall so no cavity. The coat rack is wooden and has holes in it for the screws to go through. I got it second hand and it looks as though it was screwed directly to the wall before rather than having had brackets attached to it.

a simple rawlplug and a screw long enough to fill it and go through the rack

If I have to drill a biggish hole I tend to do it in two goes...a narrower drill bit first and then a wider one that matches the plug. You will need a masonry bit and possibly a hammer drill

If you make a bit of a horlicks of it and the hole gets too wide, then I normally have a tube of glue/filler/sealant type stuff, and I sqoosh a bit of that in the hole and shove the plug in and let it set overnight and then carry on with the fixing next day.
