So who's having a new kitchen installed at the moment?

Mine started last Monday, and I'm practically bouncing off the walls with excitement! Seems to be going fairly well. Suppliers took several wrong measurements but my fitter has managed to work around that. Apart from the space where the unit for the sink to go in that was measured too small, so cabinet had to be exchanged for a smaller one and a smaller sink. Suppliers have been a bit pants to be fair. Units supplied are lovely though.

Some pix of kitchen so far.

Anyone who's having similar done want to keep me company? Grin

all you kitchens look fab by the way. Xmas Grin

RubbishMantra · 13/12/2017 19:10

Put my foot down with the supplier today and got them to send the correct fitting unit. Fitter had tried to tweak the existing one to fit, but it didn't look quite right. Had to ask him to take it out and replace with the new one, and trim down the worktop. Looks much better, yay!

I know what you mean Dottie, about so close to christmas. Fortunately I don't have DCs to wrangle! And one of the benefits of not having a working kitchen - I have no no choice but to eat out every night. Grin

Flooring going in tomorrow!

rubbish glad you got it sorted with supplier. I think you were right to push for correct one. Best to get it right now or it would annoy you forever!
My flooring was done today - yay. And large holes in ceiling fixed by very helpful chap. Gas hob still not connected - I am now frantically ringing round to find someone to do this as it is clear fitters just aren't going to.
Tiler is off sick till who knows when...but maybe back Monday.... In the meantime I've moved stuff back into kitchen so we can at least function kind off. I now need to come up with ideas of meals to cook without a hob....
may be no sprouts for Christmas dinner at this rate!!

goingtotown · 13/12/2017 23:59

dotty I’ve been tipped over the edge

Come & join me I’ve been tipped too.

Tanyaaah · 14/12/2017 20:06

Yes I was, but i dropped a chisel and made a mark right in the middle shortly after it was fitted!

RubbishMantra · 14/12/2017 20:24

Mine went in today Tanyaaah, am chuffed to bits with it. Maybe I shouldn't have any knives in the kitchen! (Am v. clumsy)

Going to have a small glass of Frangelico (man, that stuff is delicious) and crack on with some painting before radiator goes in, so I don't have to faff painting around it.

going I'll happily join you rocking in a corner sipping gin!!
How is everyone getting on?
STILL no gas hob connected! Have had NO RESPONSE at all from company meant to be doing it (as arranged through Ikea) since Tuesday.
I had someone booked myslef to do it this morning but they have just text to say they wont be here till 3pm...I'm now panicking they may be a no show too. I just feel so bloody helpless. These trades people can do what they want it seems and there's nothing I can do about it. So, so so fed up.
On a positive not the holes in ceiling have now been fixed and ceiling skimmed so that is fine now.
I am hoping beyond hope that I have found a new tiler to finish the tiling tomorrow - wont really believe it until he actually turns up and finishes the job though! Brief text received from original tiler yesterday stating he was still unwell and couldn't say when he would be better- so I have written him off tbh.
Honestly, if behaved like these people in my job I would have been sacked a long time ago.
I have sent a long email of complaint to ikea kitchen dept, but not surprisingly have had no response.
general tip DO NOT EVER BUY AN IKEA KITCHEN!! just in case anyone was considering it!! Xmas Wink

Gfplux · 16/12/2017 10:22

Just a tip that might help now and in the future
I have just replaced our mixer tap in a 12 year old kitchen because I could not buy the correct ceramic disc unit to stop it dripping.
This was because our kitchen supplier had supplied an "unbranded" tap.
I now know that next time I will make sure we don't choose a "designer"
tap that uses non standard parts.
Gone are the days when taps had rubber washers. Now they have purpose built ceramic units that are simple to change but have to be the correct size and type.

PigletJohn · 16/12/2017 11:16

you can still buy taps with washers if you want.

I do.

Updated photo , slowly getting there!

TDHManchester · 16/12/2017 11:39

Some nice jobs being done there. Makes me almost motivated to refit my kitchen. Might save it until summer. Luckily i can DIY.

RubbishMantra · 16/12/2017 12:47

Can i join gin sipping corner please, I'd bring Frangelica, but I've drunk it all!

Electrics all gone in. Unit holding extractor is now sort of balancing coquettishly on one bracket until Monday morning. Am willing it not to fall, and have put loads of padding underneath, just in case.

Your kitchen looking fab with the doors up, Bax.

rubbish sending stay put vibes to your cabinet! If my gas engineer doesn't turn up this afternoon I think I will join you in staying drunk until Monday!

dottybear · 17/12/2017 14:28

so, gas engineer turned up at 7pm but had brought wrong piles so couldn't do it. Thankfully though I ha managed to find someone else who has been this morning and finally I have a working hob...yay!
New tiler has also turned up as promise and is busy tiling .He wont get it all done today but is going to come back Tuesday to finish off....
I have told dh we are never, never having any work done on the house again!

dottybear · 17/12/2017 14:29

pipes not piles LOL no idea if he brought his piles or not!

RubbishMantra · 17/12/2017 15:32

Hurrah dotty! You should be ready by christmas then. I think I have to resign myself that mine may not be, and I'm going away end of next week. As long as the house is in a reasonable state, all rubbish taken away so I can do some serious dust removal before I go away, (dear Lord, the dust!) I'll be reasonably content.

Cabinets almost all in, worktops part done, electrics done, (Slide and Hide is fascinating! Grin) so really just doors, plinths, cornicing, extractor flue, some panelling and splashbacks/upstands left for him to do... on second thoughts, where's the strong drink? Confused

OP posts:
dottybear · 17/12/2017 16:12

rubbish hang in there! I'm sick of battling the dust. I think it will be here for ever!
At least I now have a fully working cooker and hob. That was my main worry tbh. wont get the decorating done before christmas I don't think but that is minor detail in the grand scheme of things!

douglas2013 · 21/12/2017 15:28

If its ikea warrington i would cancel, I planned my kitchen last january, the PIV didnt happen as the fitter didnt arrive as he was supposed to, they sent another fitter out for the PIV in july, all confirmed fitment to start the 2 September 2017, this started on the 4 September as the fitter had personal problems. Fitment completed beginning November, they had to redo all my customised worktops amongst other issues, put the sink in the wrong way round (no support), the breakfast bar was wobbly, the holes for the hob and sink were skew ( 5cm from the edge on the one side and 7mm one the other side) with a second fitment team as the first guy installed my kitchen like something out of cowboy builders. From Day 1 IKEA has been silent and absent from the fitment, leaving me to sort out any issues with the fitter which is not what you pay them a installation fee for and certainly not something you would expect from a kitchen installation "service". Its been a total nightmare and IKEA warrington just couldnt be bothered.

dottybear · 22/12/2017 17:54

oh douglas that sounds shocking. Mine is thankfully now done but I would NEVER recommend ikea fitting to anyone!
I have emailed my list of disasters to ikea, and not surprisingly have had no response. I need to contact them to arrange a refund of the money we ended up having to pay out to the gas engineer we had to hire to connect cooker when there one failed to show for 4 days in a row, but it will wait till after Christmas now as tbh I cant face any more phone calls about the kitchen just now!
Hope everyone's Kitchen is at least in a functional state for Christmas!

Baxdream · 22/12/2017 19:21

Christmas ready

So who's having a new kitchen installed at the moment?
3luckystars · 16/01/2018 21:27

Wow! That looks great!!!

We are hoping to get a new kitchen very shortly too. I’m glad you are all getting on so well.

SimonBridges · 16/01/2018 21:29

How is it going Rubbish?

whiskyowl · 17/01/2018 10:55

I'm currently having a kitchen fitted. I got mine from Ikea, and while I'm pleased with the quality of the stuff, I've had an absolute nightmare with delivery. Everything was supposed to come in late December, but nothing showed up. It's now been split into 7 separate deliveries, which will go on until 5 February! There is absolutely no way of getting customer service to change any of this - you wait 40 minutes on a hold line and get through to speak to someone, only to be told that they are totally powerless to change anything whatsoever.

The issue is that they are basically selling a kitchen that they know they cannot supply within a reasonable timeframe. It's the Kungsbacka line, which is made of recycled plastic bottles. There's an issue with the supply of these bottles in China, which is leading to long backlogs at the Italian factory where they are made, and huge delays are being passed on to customers.

They have also - somehow - managed to run out of the Kulinarisk ovens for 2 months. Quite how this can happen with such a key item and a company that is so globally huge in the kitchen supply market, I am not sure.

It's been a major inconvenience and a huge source of stress during a time when we're already tired (and cold) from building work. And while the kitchen itself is nice, I'm not sure it's really been worth that additional stress. I'd urge caution to anyone considering using them.
