I love it dust. It looks great. I love all the wonderful honey tones the laquer has brought out.

DustandRubble · 15/01/2018 17:06

I love those and all the variation. I was really worried that staining would cover that up too much and take the warmth out. It’ll be interesting to see what the final colour is, once it is all dry.

glorious · 15/01/2018 23:13

Yes whisky, ridiculous isn't it. I suppose it's a good way to convince oneself to actually get round to booking it! Grin

tika our garden doors went in last week and it made a really big difference. It's an exciting milestone! I'll see if I can find a picture. There's also some of my painting in there...

glorious · 15/01/2018 23:14

They are slide and pivot rather than bifolds but quite similar

Jigster01 your kitchen looks amazing, and exactly the same proportions that we are thinking about. Would you be able to tell me the measurements of your actual kitchen area? Thanks.

whiskyowl · 16/01/2018 07:50

glorious - Love your doors! They work brilliantly with the colour of your brick.

Believeitornot · 16/01/2018 07:55

Very nice doors! They look great!

We are on the home straight now which is very very surreal. Last bit of flooring to do then all the snagging bits. Then we are pretty much all done!

Have decided to get more quotes now for the garden. The builder did tweak it to try and bring it down but still only by about £1k. I’ve told him it’s too expensive still but he can’t budge on price. Ah well! There must be some cheaper firms out there.

OMG believe that's fantastic. How does it feel?

Even though I'm not that far off, I can't even imagine being done. I worked out yesterday that it's been 18 weeks since we started, and that the whole thing will probbably be 22 weeks or so. It feels like about 22 years! Grin

jigster01 · 16/01/2018 08:51

Hi Becky width of kitchen area where the units are is 2.4m - so I had 4x600 units, just fitted perfectly- and length on plans says 4.7m .Overall the build was 5x6 ,so kitchen extends out into dining area

Baxdream · 16/01/2018 08:53

Gosh those doors are gorgeous!

We're on week 20. We just have flooring and general snagging. Oh and front door/render.

We got our new doormat yesterday 😂

bax - aw aw aw aw AW! SUCH a cute dog!! (And a great picture too!)

Believeitornot · 16/01/2018 09:00

We’ve been going for about 28 weeks...

It feels surreal. I can’t imagine not having the builders here Shock

Bax that's fab!! Where did you get that ..I'd love one

Beckyt80 · 16/01/2018 09:03

Thanks jigster01, that’s really helpful. I see all these photos of kitchens and floor plans of kitchens but putting them together is what’s really useful. We are just in the planning stage, so knowing how deep to go out with our extension to achieve what we like is useful!

Fourmagpies · 16/01/2018 09:37

I've lost count but we started at the beginning of May though we have had long stretches with nothing happening. Before Christmas I felt quite sad that I wouldn't be having the builder in every day, I quite got used to him being there but then over Christmas when I knew he wouldn't be there, I remembered what it was like not to have someone else in the house and not having to worry about whether the kids have flushed the loos before leaving in the morning, or having to be ready by 8, or all the other things and now I'm ready for him to be gone - except he hasn't actually been back yet since Christmas. The actual building work is finished, it's just the tidying up bits, some doors still to be fitted and skirting boards, a few holes to fill in. I want to get on with the decorating and we've been doing bits where we can but can't really finish it properly yet. Hoping to get the flooring fitted at the end of the month, still waiting for the screed to dry which is taking forever!

Fourmagpies · 16/01/2018 09:40

Bax your dog is so cute, love that mat. We promised our DSs we would get a dog after all the building work is finished.

glorious that looks lovely, your back bit is similar to ours. And the building site garden!

Dust your floor looks beautiful, I would be reluctant to stain it too.

Tatlerer · 16/01/2018 11:33

Hello all!
Negotiations/ rows/ threats still abound between us and knobhead builder but in better news I'm in PACKING HELL (it's a pain but at least it means we're moving home on Friday- hooray!). We are never ever ever moving again so at least I can comfort myself that I will never ever have to do this again- pack and everything else!!
Loving all the pictures and regretting not having kitchen disco lights Smile

whiskyowl · 16/01/2018 11:41

Tatlerer! I've been wondering how you were getting on! I'm so sorry to hear that the stress with the builder bully is ongoing. But it's great you are moving back in!! I know packing is terrible, but just think of being back in your own four walls again!!

I am in awe of those of you nearing the 30 week mark... Or even beyond it!! Shock. How have you coped!! I'm getting so sick of my hair, eyes, clothes being full of dust!

Tika77 · 16/01/2018 11:49

glorious Those doors are lovely! AmmO right assuming they’d have been about 1.5x the price of bifolds? I really wanted sliding because of thinner frames.

Believe Good news on the finish. Funny how builders can’t match certain prices, still don’t know how that work.

Tika77 · 16/01/2018 11:51

Bax I love your little ewok. :-))

Tika77 · 16/01/2018 11:58

All this talk of weeks made me interested and checked calendar. We’re in week 19. Still not waterproof. I really want them out before the end of the term, as I know I won’t be able to cope with builders, dust, kids, dog and everything in ‘my space’.

Baxdream · 16/01/2018 12:40

We got it from amazon. He's a Lhasa apso and it couldn't look any more like him! He is such a good boy .

I didn't realise how many weeks we were so had to work it out. I also don't know how you long termers cope. We will be done in a couple of weeks and that feels like plenty!

glorious · 16/01/2018 16:30

Thanks for all the door love! DH would have gone for cheaper ones but I'm glad we chose these in the end (despite our budget headaches). tika these aren't actually that much more than the bifolds by the same company but they're not sliding doors in the traditional sense. One panel pivots open (the right hand one as you look at the picture is open in the picture) and then the others slide independently of one another and you can pivot them open when they get to the end. They were approx 15% more. We did get quotes for various sliding doors and many of those were much more.

bax I agree, your dog is very cute and that doormat is almost freakily similar!

glorious · 16/01/2018 17:00

Oh and tatlerer I'm so sorry about your builder.

whiskyowl · 16/01/2018 17:04

Tiles are being laid. The bad news? Even though I over-ordered by 10% I am somehow 4 boxes down. Cost: £300. Bah. The other bad news? I don't actually like the tiles. They are much more beige than I thought they would be, and a bit... mumsy. It's our own fault. We ordered them far too early, for a totally different kitchen, instead of waiting until we had a kitchen in situ. I don't have the money to buy a new load now, so they will just have to do for a bit, but it's a little disappointing.

The good news is that the different tiles for the garden room look great.
